I know the Vendetta is mostly anti-tank, so is it worth the 10 points for sponson heavy bolters? If all the enemy tanks are destroyed and it lives they'd come in handy... Any thoughts? Thanks!

My Vendetta is currently incomplete (waiting for magnets to arrive) but I don't think the 2x HBs have the necessary field of fire to hit the same unit, unless that unit is some huge blob squadron that's really spread out.

If I'm correct, I'd say that the HBs aren't ever worthwhile.

Two heavy bolters for 10 points sounds like a good deal. Adds a little more threat to infantry and light vehicles for little cost, and you can still fire all weapons if you move 6" or less.

I think that even under optimal circumstances a Vendetta will be busy doing something to armor all game. I'd save points and focus on it doing it's job, especially if it is your primary source of anti-tank. If you are relying on them for most or all of your AT, then they will likely be too busy with armor and MCs to start pecking at infantry.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

What are you talking about? They're Space Marines, which are heroic. They need to be able to do all the heroic stuff. They fight aliens and don't afraid of anything. -Orkeosarus

I think that if you need it to stop infantry, but that's only if you are going after them. Most of the time armour will be the biggest threat. So no.

I won the under 16's event at CanCon and i am not stopping there. 1500pts of 1500pts of

If you need something to stop infantry, you're better off with a Valkyrie with Multiple Rocket Pods. the Vendetta should be focused on armor all game and if there is none left to shoot, there will probably be some heavy infantry around shoot lascannons at.

Not worth it on the valk, and definitely not on the vendetta.

I gave a bit of thought to this when I first realized how good the vendetta was and I think that the main problem is that the heavy bolter primarily only works well against the target that the rest of a mech guard army has the least trouble against: Av 10-11 and low armour save troops.

Frankly, there will be far more than enough Chimera to utterly annihilate those targets, so shots from the vendetta heavy bolters will be very points ineffective compared to the vendetta trying to pop heavy armour or high T troops.

Even on valks, though, it makes no real sense, as it slows the thing down to 6" of movement to fire all its weapons (assuming you have a brain and replace the missiles with rocket pods).

Heavy Bolters are not worth it on a Valkyrie Vendetta. The Vendetta should be shooting at armor mostly or things like Nob Bikers or Terminators where the las cannons ap 2 and str 9 is useful.

Heavy Bolters might be worth it on a Valkyrie with Missle pods and a Multilaser if your not moving you can fire the multi laser, 2 missle templates and 2 heavy bolters at infantry.

I like the hellfury rockets. The skimmer should be geared for either anti troop or anti armor. Lascannon sponsons and missile pods fulfill two different roles therefore if I take rockets I would pay the 10 extra points for heavy bolter sponsons.

I think that while there are many better ways to spend 10pts in an IG list (upping Grenade Launchers to Plasma guns, putting plasma pistols on BS4 characters, or getting half way to making a PCS a CCS), there are also a lot worse ways to spend the last 10 pts in a list. It's a bubble upgrade: the last in, the first out. Why not spend 10pts to make a Valk with rocket pods even better against light infatry? Odds are, if there are lots of Orks, you don't want to be getting closer anyway, so you can just slide 6" and shoot.

In the end, it's 10pts and 10pts doesn't make or break a list. Now, taking them on all 9 of your valks... well, that's getting pricy.
