Good idea! The only problem I see is with a lack of lateral support. Have you used it yet?

It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. what do you mean by lateral support? you mean down the middle length wise? thats why there is 2 legs underneath the middle section of the table also.

here is a pic that shows the middle supports pretty well.

and yeah, we have played on it a bunch. it is pretty sturdy, you couldnt sit on it, but you can lean on it no problem.

By lateral support I mean resistance to sideways movement, too much of which will cause the legs to fold, dropping your armies on the foor. Since you said you can lean on it I take it that it's not too bad.

I was also wondering about the sideways support. Say you take your hands on the short edge and push horizontally.

You could probably add some support for this by using some fence parts. There are 2 piece clamps available that you can use. One end of it clamps onto the horizontal bar of a fence, and the other end clamps onto the end of the vertical pole, and bolts hold them together. Its the joint that looks like a T. Just look at any fence that has a top horizontal bar, and one of the vertical poles and see where they join together.

You could do the same here, but use 2 of them for horizontal suports between the legs, so it looks like an H. Just unscrew the bolts and store. For your full-up table, you'd need 6 horizontal dowels, and 6 clamps. Probably pretty cheap.

Yeah, you could probably do that, but like I said, it wont come apart or fall over unless someone falls on it or just really pushes it over or something. each leg sits about an inch inside each leg holder, so they wont just fall out. you would need to actively try and make this table fall over.

This is a really awesome article. I'm so glad i found this. I've been needing ideas for creating a larger table without having to suffer from lack of space. And there is was - right under my nose.

Excellent guide. I'll sure have a go at this myself after seeing your guide!

Thanks!
