1) Do you pay for both the Company Command and the special character when taking a special HQ choice or do you just pay for one? Is Creed 90 or 140 points prior to upgrades?
2) Does the Astropath and Master of the Fleet abilities work while the characters are in a transport waiting to show up from reserves?
3) I assume there is no minimum range when direct firing the Basilisk?

1) Creed is 140 he replaces a Company Commander you have already paid for.

2) The fact that they are in a transport is irrelevant, but I'm not sure whether they can use their abilities before they arrive, since all their rules say is "while the ADVISOR is alive".

3) Yes, when you fire and ordnance barrage you always can ignore the minimum and fire it directly; with the except of the units that say you can't fire them directly. (which I believe is just the Colossus)
Just remember you are giving up the ability Barrage when you fire it directly: so Armour facing is determined by the Armour facing your weapon and infantry don't have to take pining tests from unsaved wounds.

You have to first buy a CCS for x pts from the army list, then buy Creed for the points cost listed in his enntry and replace the Officer in that CCS.

As said, being in a Transport does not matter. Being in reserves however, is muddy, and there is a solid argument for both no and yes. Discuss pre game untill GW get their Thumbs out their arses.

Nope, just like all other Ordnance Barrage Weapons

I would take the solid argument of Autarchs, who have an identical ability, being able to affect while off board.

Unless people call someone off board in reserves "dead" the only requirement is the advisor is alive.

The major problem with that is the Autarchs actually suggest it doesn't work, because Autarchs Master Strategist rule specifically states it works when he is not in play, which in turn suggests that it normally would not work.

#3, page 58, just for future reference.

#2, I'm in the, "If they're alive, it works" camp, but can see it either way. Not worth arguing about.

#1, sufficiently answered.

If they are still off the board when the game ends they are dead so there's certainly a basis for that assumption.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

But they're not "dead" until the game ends. Up to that point they are "alive" and with Reserves arriving automatically on turn 5, you're gonna have to work mighty hard top keep them off the table at that point.............. Say put them in a Valk that has a Mishap deep striking with them aboard, that's the only way I can think of.

If we were to claim that they were "dead" just cause they were in Reserve, then any game against a Necron player with all his uints in Reserve is an automatic win. Necron turn 1, all your Necron units in reserve are dead, you phase out, I win. Ummmm, I don't think so..............

I certainly am not advocating that a unit in Reserves is dead, I'm just saying they are essentially not in the game until they arrive.

There are a few reasons for this:

1) There have been a few special rules that say they specifically apply to units that are in Reserves, such as the old codex IG vehicle vox-thing that allowed you to re-roll reserves and both the Lictor and Autarch (and I'm sure there's a few more out there).

The Autarch rules say (and the Lictor rules are very similar):

"While the Autarch is alive, you may choose to add 1 to your rolls for reserves, regardless of whether he is in play or not."

I think (hope) we can agree that when they refer to the model being 'out of play' they are talking about him being in Reserves (because they denote 'alive' to show we're not just talking about him being dead out of play). If you can accept that fact then certainly a unit being 'not in play' means something, right?

2) As I mentioned in a previous post if you start allowing units off the table to count as being in-play then all of a sudden you get people holding their units in Reserve to pull crazy stuff off with special rules that don't have ranges. Old Psychic Hoods nullifying any power on the table, a Tyranid with Shadow in the Warp affecting psykers on the table, Necron Lords setting off Solar Pulses, etc.

And if a unit off the table is still in play why can't an Eldar Farseer, for example, cast fortune on himself before entering the table? Basically it opens a giant can of worms that the rules are not written to anticipate.

I have some friends playing a 2 on 2 game, Chaos vs IG, tonight and I think this thread might help me out on something. Both IG players plan to take the guy that penalizes your reserve roll to keep the Chaos players off the board because they expect the effects to stack. Is this correct or would there only be a single penalty to reserve rolls?

More potential cheating for tonights game that you may be able to help with:

Can two players use one anothers teleport homers/Chaos icons/Transport Beacons?

Thanks in advance!
