What do y'all think? Am I too light on troops for 1000 pts?

O H I am in the Webway...

Probably. I'd drop a grinder and switch the thirster to dual heralds. Then with the extra grinder points grab another squad of letters. Maybe drop one crusher for more letters.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

Eh, with your suggested changes that basically leaves me with a horde of bloodletters, and this list is trying to capitalize on dropping a bunch of big threats down all at once to hopefully overwhelm the enemy. I would make consider swapping 1 grinder out for 8 more letters, but taking the thirster and crushers out kinda leaves me with...nothing?

Leave the crushers at home and take 3 soul grinders. Use the extra points to increase the number of bloodletters in the two squads. Oh and drop the Icons they are a total waste of points in a mono khorne list.

What's wrong with the Icons?

Icons are a must. You should have 2 in an army, one in each half.

If you are running Khorne I would totally keep the thirster as he is amazing.

Blood letters are kinda "meh" in my mind since most of the list does their job already. BUT since it is Khorne Themed might as well keep it that way.

What is the role that the grinders are filling? (they are very good... don't get me wrong)

You may consider dropping them for more Crushers and a Herald of Khorne

This gives you:
2 troop choices for holding objectives
a Bloodthirster
and a crusher unit

Basically it would limit you to two units that can do something list BUT it drops your KP down

This is why the Icons are bad. He wants to front load the drops (put all the heavy hitters into the first wave). If you do this then move the icon to the crushers. The very first unit you drop should be the crushers and the icon, followed by the thirster and grinders. Don't bother with icons on the bloodletters, you'll want to drop them on objectives if possible.

This sort of strategy works well when you roll a 3+ when you roll for your first wave. When you roll a 1 or a 2 the icons certainly won't help your situation. You want to keep the bloodletters alive which will be hard with everything shooting at them on the first turns.

Well, I'm thinking the bloodletters could drop into cover and then just go to ground to avoid the worst of the shooting. In any other situation, the Bloodthirster has an 18" threat radius and the soul grinders fleet, so I was thinking that even if they start a little farther back, its better than having a god awful scatter.

The crushers wouldn't make use of the icons though. So I guess with my above list, my waves would be:

Wave 1
'Thirster
Crushers
Soul Grinder

Wave 2
Bloodletters
Bloodletters
Soul Grinder

Am I on the right track?

At 1000 points, I would take advantage of the amazingly powerful HQ spam daemons can pull off.

What if you did this?

HQ
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might

Troops
5 bloodletters
6 bloodletters
6 bloodletters

Elites
4 bloodcrushers, fury of khorne
4 bloodcrushers, fury of khorne

its 8 points under.

wave 1:
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might
4 bloodcrushers, fury of khorne
4 bloodcrushers, fury of khorne
Wave 2:
5 bloodletters
6 bloodletters
6 bloodletters
Khorne Herald on chariot, Unholy might

with that much dropped into your opponents face on turn one, its simply too much to kill.

Extreme, that's an interesting idea, but I don't think the Heralds have enough umph to put the hurt on tanks, and don't have the mobility to keep up with a fully mechanized (tau, eldar) force.

Having fought an awfully similar list, I'll say this (some of which is repeats from above):

1. Icons in the first wave. I've seen Kairos and a Soulgrinder get rocked simply because they scattered onto difficult terrain.

2. That should be enough troops. Going to ground in your backfield will keep that unit of Bloodletters alive, and if people are shooting at your Bloodletters, they're not shooting at your Bloodcrushers.

3. At 1000 points, the Bloodthirster and two Soulgrinders will be a nightmare to deal with. The Bloodcrushers will almost be an afterthought. If you can, though, unique-up the Bloodcrushers (musician, rage, icon) so that you can do that fun wound allocation stuff.

Herald spam would be a pretty hard list to top, however the heralds don't scale very well to upper point levels. At least one Greater Daemon is the way to go at almost any point level and they are good investments.

I didn't notice this before but you can't take a naked thirster, you'll need to fit unholy might and and blessing of the blood god in there.

I play mono Khorne at higher point levels and if you really must have an icon I'd run this list at 1k.

Bloodthirster 275
unholy might
Blessing of the Blood God

Bloodcrusher x3 145
Icon

Bloodletter x8 128
bloodletter x 8 128

Soul Grinder 160
Phlegm
Soul Grinder 160
Phlegm

996

If your opponent is ok with 1 point over take an instrument with the crushers. Wave 1 should be the thirster, 2 grinders, and the crushers. Drop the crushers first in very open terrain and deepstrike the rest of your force off them.

In objective missions drop your letters on objectives with cover and go to ground and aggressively contest the other objectives with the rest of your heavy hitters.

Why bother with putting more points on the grinders? the 50 points you are spending on phlegm is another crusher with fury! Take off the Might on the blood thirster and you can afford the instrument for the crushers to make them all unique right?

Phlegm is a very important upgrade for grinders. If your grinder is ever immobilized from being shot or a deepstrike mishap your not totally useless. You can still stand around and shoot templates.

Thats a really good point that I hadn't thought of. However, what did you mean "You can't take a naked 'thirster"? The codex doesn't mention any of his options as MUST, but rather MAY? Or are you saying that it's dumb not to at least take Might on him?

upgrade thirsters? what a waste of points
unless your against other daemons or a nightbringer then you shouldnt need to upgrade it atall.

if you are against a nightbringer then you take skulltaker and instant kill the fether

however, i would free up as many points as i can and run the letters in MSU's, since at this many points you cant go to heavy on units, you can still take more smaller ones though.

Blessing of the blood god is a bargain, it's only 5 points for a +2 save from psychic powers. Sure it's situational but it's only 5 points. You can drop it to add an instrument to the crusher unit for complex wound allocation. If you know for sure you'll never face an army with psychic powers.

Unholy might in my opinion is required. The primary role of a bloodthirster in a mono khorne list is to kill tanks, walkers, high toughness targets, and fast things the rest of the army can't catch. S8 is an instant kill for most characters and will autoglance most vehicles. On the charge you can almost auto-pen AV14.

It looks good to me and doubt you would lose much with this list. I can see a draw being inevtiable against smart opponents if your troops come in first turn.

Well, there's a tourney on saturday and this is one of my options. Problems are a lack of another soul grinder (don't know if I'll recieve it in time) and the blood crushers aren't painted. No big because it doesn't have to be fully painted, but I'd feel bad running an non painted army in only 1000 pts.

Good replies all around though, this is my first foray into demons.
