I have 2x3 Trolls in my army list and tbh I rather get -1 on the enemies "strike roll" than magic resistance 2 and a armor save of 5. MR is surely nice but 5+ armor save I dont know, guess that wont cut it vs the most stuff my trolls are goin for.
So what´s your choice?

River trolls are better with that -1 to hit. Everyone knows what stone trolls do so they don't even bother with throwing spells at them and that sweet MR2 doesn't really come up too much.

Who needs 5+ armor save when you can have that -1 to hit. Too bad I like Stone Trolls more - model like.

Magic Resistance is nice, though River Trolls have an obvious advantage. An extra 5+ save is near worthless, but you have a back up of regen, and it at least gives you a save against flaming attacks

My favorite models are normal trolls.

If you go up against a fire magic fanatic or a tzeentch player then regen is not very helpful, so go with stone trolls in those situations, otherwise river trolls.

Stone Trolls all the time when I had my O&G Army, I used to stick a small unit of something, usually wolf riders or some Goblin bowmen to keep em protected the Mag resistance is better purely for the fact that if trolls do not break a unit on the charge something has gone horribly wrong.
