Hey Folks!

I've recently returned to the hobby after a 9year break form it!
I've never based models before (what i was young then!) But with my new Eldar force i want to do what can to make them look great.

The concept behind my Eldar is they are a Renegade group form a destroyed Craftworld.
Pirates/Raiders basically.

But I'm not sure how to effectively base them. Ideally i would like to sow them in some sort of Suburban setting, but not a large city/hive world. More a outlying settle ment.
Does any body have any tips on how i can achieve this look?

many thanks

GW does sell basing kits which include rubble and so on.

Man, those basing kits suck! I bought that basing set expecting something grand, but they really didn't work out for me in the end.

I would jus say work on town colours (greys, red from bricks, wood and such) add rubble and random things like bullets, clips, utensils, bricks, and general debris.. thats what I generally do.

Too many armies to count now.. mainly all 40k and AoS

Thanks a lot
So maybe just get some sand and add random pits to it.

Would filing it down to give a flat, but still a bit bump, look work for something like tarmac used on roads?

If your looking for a tarmac surface then all you need to use is a fine grain sand

Go to barrule.com dude, they have a ton of good stuff for basing in their shop.

They're dirt cheap, they ship fast and I believe they sometimes ship for free.

You can get embossed plasticard in tarmac, brick, flagstone (I could go on) or you can get a bunch of different grades of gravel, small (cast) planks of wood, they even do bricks now! Tiny bricks, can you imagine?!

They're my site of choice for anything scenery-related.

"Remember, that's Barrule.com" *ding!*

Maybe you could also use a craft store alternative?

I so wish the old GW site existed as they had a cool article on how to make your Eldar look like raiders, yet with the new GW site I cant find it anymore.

Yup, the fine sand, painted black and dry brush a little gray on top really gives it that concrete road look.
And luna is right as well, the sprues REALLY come in handy for things of that nature. Good luck on your new project, and post some pics if ya can!

Cool if you want instant brown slime. Or unless you want your house smelling like a Starbucks for the best part of a week.
