I just got my new Guard codex, and I'm looking to write a Death Korps of Krieg army list. I like the whole 'no retreat, no surrender' thing that they have going, and they have a good theme (WWI Germans) and cool looking models, but I wouldn't know how to play them. They appear to have their own special rules just for Forge World and Epic, but not so much at the 40k level.

My question is this: what kind of unit selection, what tactics, and what equipment should I give to a Death Korps army?

More specifically:
What is their fluff-wise best special weapon, heavy weapon, platoon set up?

What tanks would they use?

What units are they most likely to take?

I'm looking at 2000 points, so don't hold back on suggestions. I'm looking mainly at fluff, and then effectiveness. Also the army should prolly be balanced. Again, I'm not asking for a list, just some suggestions answering the questions I put above. Thanks!

Fluffwise meltas heavy bolters and lascannons.

I would see them using any tank really. They are from a forge world IIRC, but seige weapons are most common.

They would take vets and platoons. Company command squads. The common stuff.

To be honest just stick to what Forge World has put out for Krieg and you will have a fluffy army.

Visually a Krieg army would be infantry, Artillery and Rough Riders ( those models are just too cool not to use )

Big Troy, The Samurai Gunslinger of South Philly

Dystopian Wars fleets: KoB, EotBS, Prussian, FSA
Firestorm Armada Fleets: Sorellian

Current 5th ed WL record
Salamander Marines 22-3(Local) GT Circuit 2-0-1
Mech Vet Guard 54-8-4 (local) 5-1 Ard Boyz

Fluff wise the Korps are a siege army. That means heavy on infantry and artillery. As cool as the Krieg rough riders are unless you buy the pricey FW models they aren't worth it as far as effective units or fluff wise. The very first rules for Krieg had them fearless in assault. I think using Creeds rules as a Krieg general would be very effective and fluffy. As far as weapons go with heavy bolters, missile launchers, mortars, meltas and flamers.

Any artillery piece would be fluffy, but the colossus ahs that extra no cover save sweetness. As far tanks go they wouldn't have huge numbers. In trench/ww1 warfare they were largely placed piecemeal along the line to support the infantry advance. Any type of russ is fluffy though I favour Executioners and Punishers personally since theres less chance of friendly fire scatters.
