Right Donnie, it's not because of the annexation of Crimea, the shooting down of a civilian jet by a Russian AAA battery, the killing of dissidents and their families abroad, the backing of a murderous regime that has no issues with using internationally banned chemical weapons against it's own citizens...oh, yeah, then there's that meddling with our election which was cited by our Intelligence agencies. But we're the idiots.
Don't forget direct armed confrontation in Syria which left maybe 200 dead Russians.

Yes conditions now are clearly worse than when Dad was being shot at in Korea, or waiting in Florida to invade Cuba, after having sent mom out to swamp country Louisiana because he was certain the nuke war was starting in 24 hours when they landed. Yes, it's much worse now.

In economic news...
Worker wages drop while companies spend billions to boost stocks
Six months after the Tax Cut and Jobs Act became law, there's still little evidence that the average job holder is feeling the benefit.
Worker pay in the second quarter dropped nearly one percent below its first-quarter level, according to the PayScale Index, one measure of worker pay. When accounting for inflation, the drop is even steeper. Year-over-year, rising prices have eaten up still-modest pay gains for many workers, with the result that real wages fell 1.4 percent from the prior year, according to PayScale. The drop was broad, with 80 percent of industries and two-thirds of metro areas affected.
"Now, economic confidence has been good, we're in a strong economy, GDP is growing, but the question has been, where's the paycheck?" said Katie Bardaro, vice president of data analytics at PayScale.
The answer is, largely, in the companies' coffers. Businesses are spending nearly $700 billion on repurchasing their own stock so far this year, according to research from TrimTabs. Corporations set a record in Q2, announcing $433 billion worth of buybacks — nearly doubling the previous record, which was set in Q1.
Huh...imagine that, the thing everyone expected to happen, and that every major business group and CEO indicated they would do, came to pass.

No, Trump is right for once here. If you think the relationship with Russia is bad because of the annexation of Crimea, you are not looking back far enough. The annexation of Crimea happened because the relationship was so bad, it is not the cause of it. jouso wrote: BigWaaagh wrote:So Pathological Liar in Chief just started the Helsinki summit by bashing and insulting the U.S....fething unbelievable! “Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!”-Trump Right Donnie, it's not because of the annexation of Crimea, the shooting down of a civilian jet by a Russian AAA battery, the killing of dissidents and their families abroad, the backing of a murderous regime that has no issues with using internationally banned chemical weapons against it's own citizens...oh, yeah, then there's that meddling with our election which was cited by our Intelligence agencies. That rumour has been consistently disproven. It was not the Russians who attacked the US, it was Syrian militias with a small number of Russian mercenaries hired as backup. The US strikes on them were approved by Russia beforehand.

It's weird, but I wonder if that wouldn't be better if Trump got a second mandate and Republicans keep majority in both chambers. Because the long term effects of his presidency and administration won't really show at the end of the first mandate and will be more clear with the second. He then would be cornered by the consequences of his own actions revealed to everyone, and the GOP propaganda will really be in trouble to make an alternative narrative to counter reality.
If the Democrats win instead, you can be sure the GOP will blame everything on them and dismiss the "Trump Accident" even more swiftly.
That's how you catch liars and delusive people. By giving them absolute no chance to escape with their lies and delusions.

Now, I don't know about "never been worse", that seems like something you could really split hairs over, but it is in fact the case that the US and the West basically decided to keep treating Russia as an enemy even after the fall of the USSR. It's also true that it's mostly out of raw foolishness. Germany is pretty stupid for joining in on the antagonism against a country they buy so much gas from. The main impulse in the rivalry with Russia isn't anything its government has actually done but "we must unquestionably rule the world". It's a bunch of wealthy businessmen being upset that there is now another group of wealthy businessmen.

To me, this is way bigger than "If You Like Your Doctor, You Can Keep Your Doctor!" However, I will be interested to see what sloganeering Dems can put around this one as I think President Trump (or the Administration) put out an estimate of a $4,500 raise for all!
That needs to be hung around the R parties neck like a millstone.

The two nations (US and Russia) are enemies for one simple reason: We both have national interests in being the power that "controls" Europe. Therefore, we will always be opponents until "control" of Eurpoe is no longer relevant.
"Control" is not the right word, but we want to be domninant in the Eurpoean sphere of influence. There is just not a great short hand for the kind of relationship I am trying to get across.

Yes, damage will certainly be terrible. That's how they will be caught. The more damage is done, the more difficult it is to hide it/blame on the other side, especially when they have no power at all to influence the decisions. And the longer it lasts in people's minds.
You can see Trump is still here and supported by the GOP base after more than a year of this, even with everything he said, did and endorses. They won't change their mind two years later. No,you need real horrible, undeniable damage inflicted to them so that they can't do anything but see the reality in front of their eyes. And if Democrats are in the same place right now, with no actual power to do anything to block the Trump administration, even the GOP propaganda will sound silly to them when they will blame them for what is clearly done by the Trump Administration - and by extension, the Republicans.
When they can't deny or escape the reality anymore, that's how they will be forced to change. Such parties/people need an enemy/target to blame so that they can deflect the unwanted consequences of their own wrongs. If the situation is still like this for a second mandate ? They won't have any inside. That's why they also need an enemy outside. Their ideology can't work without an enemy to blame/fight.
And yes, I'm aware what I'm saying is also horrible. But sadly, as time goes on and I keep reading their reactions, I reluclantly think we may have to end up here.

What's important isn't to suffer through the damage that's being done to our country and the world in the hopes that it'll somehow wake up people supporting this idiot; what's important is for the people who don't support him but stayed home to remember exactly how bad it can get, and for the people who don't support him and did vote to stay fired up about it. And I think there's been more than enough damage done for that to happen.

I once thought as you.... until I realized that there was no "bottom". What you propose leads only to destruction with no gain, because no matter how far it goes people can rationalize it all away. I learned that after the G.W. Bush Presidency.
We actually invaded a country and got 100's of millions of people killed and as a nation still have almost 0 remorse for it, or can even admit what we did in Iraq thruthfully. A ridiculous amount of people in the US actually still believe Iraq was somehow involved in 9/11 and had WMD.
Again, what you propose only leads to worse outcomes and no lessons learned.

Yeah, they've already proven at this point that they will ignore any and all reality in exchange for the lies fed to them by this administration. Any more time and showing any more is pointless. If they haven't seen what a train wreck it is at this point, nothing in the future is going to dissuade them.

Maybe, I honestly don't know. If there is a second mandate, that means four more years added to those left for the first. That's a really, really long time of "Fake News, Deep State, Librul Bias", with an administration that will be there for so long that it will be harder to believe that the "Deep State" isn't actually the GOP with Trump and Friends. And if the liberals stay powerless in the opposition...their bias won't even matter at this point anymore.
I mean, if Trump keeps blaming Obama in the second mandate for his own taxcut leading to corporations getting richer and salaries getting lower, I think even Whembly or Frazzled will find a small something wrong in this statement...yeah, I know, that's a really big gamble here.
When one side gets to keep all the cards in the hands for such a long time and bad things keep happening, even the thicker skull will have trouble to ignore it.
There's only one way to know, and yes, it wouldn't be enjoyable most of the time. But that's when you really corner people that they won't have any other option than to act.

No the rumor hasn't been disproven, but then again you are the same guy who says the russians aren't in Ukraine despite the fact that units are being awarded medals in the country, and soldiers are coming back home in body bags.
I am not that same guy. You must be mistaking me for someone else. While I have disputed the claim that there was a full-fledged Russian invasion of Ukraine, I have not denied the fact that there was a Russian military presence there. And yes, the rumour has been disproven. Just look up statements from the Pentagon, Mattis and relevant US generals, the Russian ministry of defense etc. The only ones propagating the rumours are sensationalist media that have no actual way to fact-check what they are reporting on. Saying that Russia attacked the US denies official statements from both sides and goes against fact and reason.

Which is why we don't really want to go back to another war of any kind, like the one Trump is getting ready with his "Trade Wars". If you change "Russia" by "all previous allies of US" instead, you don't really have it better you know.

You're talking about a crowd that believes that a reality show con man who decorates his apartment in 'Dictator Chic' and announced his candidacy from a golden escalator is 'one of us' as opposed to those uncaring coastal city-dwelling elites.
Trying to convince them is not worth it. Sticking up for the people they're hurting is.

Name one thing we or the Russians would gain by saying they attacked a US military base? It would make the russians look incompetent (which they are) and it would force us to respond in some way that would not create any benefits in Syria.
That is the reason the governments of Russia and the US side step or deny what happened.
