I've been looking around the forums here but was unable to find any information on this.

Last night in a capture and hold game the question came up whether or not a vehicle, in this case a LRC could capture and hold a point. The rule book mentions something about only scoriing units can cap but my friends and i could not come up with a definate answer.

No, read the part about Scoring units in your rulebook. It's covered clearly there.

Troops and transports with troops in them can capture, everything else can only contest.

Yeah if you have a unit of troops inside the LRC then it can capture it.
