Infiltrating Broodlord

So this came up yesterday as my girlfriend & I were playing a small 750 game. If the broodlord does not have a genestealer retinue, it is an independent character in all respects (as per codex). Being as such, he would be free to join a unit of gaunts or warriors, wouldn't he?

If they are dead.
There is not another option, the retinue is required.

Just curious, what made you think it wouldn't behave like any other IC with a dead retinue?

Good call Kirsanth, I see that he must be an IC until the retinue is dead.
And Rusty Knight, I question that because I don't trust my intuition when it comes to GW press. To follow logic with these people is often the path to confusion.

He is actually an upgrade character to the Genestealers, until they die.
This actually means he cannot be picked out in CC, which most IC can be.

Which is exactly why I use him so much. 4 power attacks @ S5 or 6 is lovely. That and he's not an MC, which means he can hide behind anything for a cover save.
