The price tag on the Savage Orcs is a draw back, and I was hoping to see if it was possible to convert some.

I would buy a box of regular Orcs and if you know your way around a packet of greenstuff, try putting fur coats on all of them.
I recommend buying the new Stegadon kit as you can use it as a Squigoth (or Squigadon, whatever it is in WFB) and use all those spare bitz and skulls to make it look like your Orcs have recently been raiding a Lizardmen temple.
