Do you have to tell other player what is in your transport(at start of game),i run 3 razorback, landraider, one with a killer command squad and ic, my point is in knowing whats inside each you can ignore combat squad or empty razor till you deal with bigger danger,in real combat you would'nt know for sure what was in them, can you just write down what in each and leave them find out the hard way

Short Answer: Depends.

Rulebook says you must openly declare what is in what, but it also says some people play differently. As long as you have a way to make sure noone is cheating (Writing them down so you cant swap about) it's up to your group to decide how to play.

The Default is that you openly declare however.

Well, playing with 'secret' transports can be fun with the mates but when you're playing against strangers at tournaments or in pick-up games it doesn't take too long to run into someone who starts playing the 'shell game' of switching their good units into the transports that remain alive and conveniently having the crappy units fall out of the transports that blow up.

One game of that crap is enough to make you realize that it isn't very fun.

Besides, tactics are just as viable (if not more so) when you know what your opponent has and are able to counter it (and vice versa), as opposed to loosing because you gambled wrong on which transport was holding what. More interesting, perhaps, but more tactical, no, IMHO.
