They are fugly expensive to buy and frankly I loath them, they dont have the lines I like from larger Golgoths and if I take nice looking models like Tiamat I am left with plenty of LP burning that in all honesty ought to be spent spamming them. So even if I dont want the models in my collection I am crippling my play by not taking 'advantage' of the 'opportunity' to field them. Both terms being relative because I wouldnt want such an embarasing pile of poo dropped on my tabletop despite the usefulness.
Oh and before you ask I include Succubus Golgoths in this category too.
So I am looking for:
1. Excuses or reasons why I would not want to spend 4LP to get a free vehicle, which looks like a no brainer to me. I would like to see why this is even remotely balanced to while we are on this subject.
2. Hints as to what I can use instead as the base for a conversion. Avoiding Necron models as they are overly recognisable.
Anyone come accross this issue shares my feelings and has pointers for me?
There's pretty much no reason why you would not want a free Type 1 Combat Strider assuming you have the
LP for it. You also get 1
LP the next round for the unit if it survives, and then another Strider THAT round, etc. For such an
LP-dependent army as Therians, this is fantastic.
I would actually recommend purchasing a Succubus Golgoth as well because with the Creation routine you can spawn either of them - so you spawn whatever you need for the situation at hand, to supplement whatever kind of firepower you need at the moment.
Or, to force a choice between two sorts of units which now present a similar threat to your opponent.
You're never going to be able to spawn more than one Hekat or Succubus a turn, however. It used to be that Cypher Therian lists, where Overseers have access to both infantry and AFV routines, could spawn Hekats on themselves...then Rackham changed their mind because people complained, probably rightly, about Hekat spam and so decided that only Company Commanders could use the Creation routine at all as "Overseer routines only affect the Overseer's unit," and Hekats, not the Overseer, are "affected" by the Creation routine, even though the Hekat doesn't exist when the routine is run and thus cannot be affected.
*shrugs*
So, you're going to have to either take a Cypher list in which case your
CC can spawn the Type 1 Strider on any Overseer on the table, or if it's the base list or any of the other two variants in the Therian Army Book your
CC will only be able to spawn Type 1's on Overseers as the same type as the
CC.
