I was going over tactics for an upcoming Apoc for my Space Sharks, who I run with the Wolves 'dex, when it struck me how devastating the combination of a Land Speeder Storm hauling Wolf Scouts could be. As a fast skimmer with a scout move, it could get to dangerous targets like Devastators or tanks before they have a chance to shoot it down, drop the scouts who are twinked out with wargear as only the Wolf 'dex allows, and take stuff down before it can do damage to the rest of your guys. Even better if you splurge for an Assault Cannon or Multi-Melta on the Speeder (Depending on what you're hunting, either would be quite useful) for some fire support.

Any thoughts? Anybody done this before, and want to share how it worked for them?

It's a nasty combo.

Personally, I doubt that SW get access to the LSS in the new codex, so I haven't bothered with it yet. Of course, in APOC, it'd still be legal.

Wonderful little thing about the Wolves book, as stated in the FAQ - they get access to the rules/prices from the SM codex for everything their book tells them to, and all variants thereof. Works in regular play

I run Salamanders with a land speeder storm with a multi melta and a 5 man scout squad with combat blades and the sgt has a power fist & combi melta.

I scout the storm up to 24 inches & will pretty much have an auto 2d6 melta shot first turn. If that doesn't work I have the scouts melta available, though they'll usually attack something with 12 regular attacks and 3 power fist attacks they have a decent shot of winning.

But Land Speeder Storm isnt actually a variant of a regular Land Speeder. It is a seperate entry that the Wolves dont have acces to.
Typhoon and Tornado are variants of a Land Speeder (though they are not spelled out as such anymore) available through the Land Speeder entry.

Just like a Land Raider Redeemer isnt a variant of the Land Raider, but a seperate entry.....which Wolves dont have acces to either

In the same vein, that would mean they don't have access to the Crusader, which I've seen multiple people talk of using with wolves. Can anyone clarify this?

An update! The Apoc didn't turn out so well - sides were such that all my and my allies armies got nuked by Reavers before turn 2. So I played a couple other games and in the second, with my opponents permission to use it in normal gaming, tried this out.

My opponent was playing fairly-stationary Chaos, 2 12-man squads, a missile launcher Havok squad, and A lord with Wings, along with a Raptor squad. The storm outflanked, the rest of my army just moved forward. Getting those Wolf Scouts up behind the Havoks, taking them out, and moving on to a squad of marines probably helped me take the game. Devastating combination, I recommend it highly, and intend to continue to use it.

So what you are saying is that a Land Speeder Storm is not a variant of a land speeder?

I have thought about using them with my wolf scout too. I wish I could transport a Wolf Guard Pack leader with them, but most people play that it is for scouts only.

If I took one, I would arm it with a heavy flamer because of that BS3. I would give my Wolf Scouts some melta bombs though.

He was talking about APOCALYPSE, there you can take anything from any codex and mix and match to your hearts desire.

Hell, Space Wolf anything in a valkyrie or Vendetta (which ever has all the spiffy scout, move, shoot, disembark rules) I'm sure that would rock someones boat.
