Names are important for fictional characters. After 50 years people still know who 'Flash Gordon' or 'Doc Savage' is but I doubt that Phil Gordon or Doc Sikorsky would have gone as far.
Sgt Fury, Sgt Rock, good names. Rear Admiral Remmington, not so good.
So given the abilities of modern tech, what is the coolest name we can come up for?

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

Just out of interest, what has modern tech got to do with the naming of characters? Surely it has more to do with linguistic capacity, and the nuances to do with the language you use, than the size of your car engines.

A - it's a bit of joke, a riff on the idea that EVERYTHING gets better so naturally 2009 names must be cooler than 2008 names.
B - the one major technological change of the last 20 years has been in information tech, sharing and indexing ideas. So there actually is a good chance that things like 'hero name generators' can help writers make cooler names.
