Armies: Orks and Nids vs Chaos space marines, renegade space marines, and traitor guard. (Im commanding the guard)
Points: 9k per side on an 12x4 table.
Mission Modified version of the
apoc mission I posted. The big change was that we only used 5 objectives and not 6.
Pregame Orks win the roll for first turn, they choose to go 2nd so we deploy first. The mission dictates that we deploy our reserves in 4 waves, for today we chose to divide them into 3 waves. With each side deploying 3000 points per turn.
(Sorry about the quality of the pictures I took them with my phone during the game)
Chaos turn 1: The bassys on the left flank fired an indirect bombardment at the ork big mek and his squad in the middle of the table, all scattering off course and one of them vaporizing a killa kan. The pair of chaos defliers on the right flank were able to put a shot right ontop of the big mek, killing him and the majority of his squad. The space marines on the left flank were able to put 2 wounds on one of the squigoths.
Ork turn 1 Lacking any long range guns the ork turn was pretty fast. The shooting phase consisted of calling down their first scheduled bombardment on the group of bassys behind the building on the left flank. The bombardment was on target killing 2 of the 3 bassys and stunning the lone survivor.
Chaos turn 2 Our next wave of reserves comes in, bringing the first super heavy's on the table. We reveal our scheduled bombardment ontop of the pair of squigoths, however our fleet is not nearly as accurate as the orks  and only causes 1 wound to the one on the far left. The bad luck continues for the bassy as it gets immobilized attempting to drive into a ruined building.
During our shooting phase the defliers on the right flank again shot the mass of orks and guants, sending a few guants back to their maker. The rest of the chaos (including a stormlord) and traitor guard armies fire at the Hive tyrant leading the charge toward the center of the table, however the tyrant shrugged most of it off only losing 1 wound.
Our shooting yielded greater results on the left flank where the combined firepower of the a marine
dev squad, a scout squad, and long range russ shot from the middle of the table finally bring down the first suigoth. The Hellhammer opens fire on the ork mob that climbed out of the dead squigoth, hoping to finish them off. However the hellhound scatters and vaporizes a truck hiding behind a nearby building. Finally the pair of demolisher's on the left flank let loose and do a few wounds to the final squigoth and kill some boys.
Ork turn 2 The orks 2nd wave arrives and brings all of their heavy hitters with it. 2 stompas and 3 fighta bombers lead the charge for the ork reinforcements. The fightabombers drop all of their bombs killing 15 khorne berserkers, and 7 tactical marines. The summoned daemon in the middle dies to dakka fex fire. The stompa on the left flank unleashes a small armies worth of firepower immoblizing both demos, blowing the main gun off one of them. Taking a structure point off the hellhammer and dealing it a drive damaged result. It then proceeds to fire off its belly gun, which scattered into the ork lines! The resulting blast killed 7 orks, and 8 guants. The stompa on the right flank killed a chaos dred, then proceed to fire its belly gun which again scattered into the middle of the battle field hitting ork and chaos forces! After the smoke cleared 6 orks, 4 khorne berserkers were killed and each dakka fex was wounded.
The games first close combat took place. The hive tyrant takes out a russ, a killa kan stuns another, while khorne berserkers defeat ork boys and guants in separate combats.
Chaos T3 Our final wave of reserves comes on committing all 9000 points of our forces, our final super heavy (a legion fellblade from the
Bols lords of battle!), and our flyers. Our 2nd scheduled bombardment comes in hitting a combat between orks and khorne berserkers, killing a few orks. The daemon prince reveals the vortex grenade (which Sean actually named, I forget the name but it was a good laugh). However it scattered harmlessly into a wall and removed it from the game. We fire the free orbital bombardment (the sm codex one) we got from controlling an objective, killing some guants and wounding a dakka fex.
The cursed bassy attempts a cross table shot on the stompa on the right flank, but fails to do any damage. The oblits deep strike in next to the stompa on the left flank and thanks to some amazing rolling get 3 chain reactions dealing 3 structure points and blowing up 2 of its guns. The chaos bomber finishes up the stompa on the left flank, but it does not go critical. The hellhammer again wiffs targeting the mob of orks in the center. The devastators finally finish the last giant squigoth. The hell tallon takes aim at a fightabomber but misses. The legion fellblade comes in on the right flank stunning the a primary weapon on the stompa, but does nothing else. A pair of vanquishers also takes aim at the stompa on the right flank and both fail to do anything.
Nothing of note in
cc accept a warboss holds in combat vs a berserker squad.
Ork turn 3 The rest of the orks come on. Their 2nd scheduled bombardment lands on the pair of defliers on the right flank. immobilizing one. They use their 2nd strategic asset (Rock em sock em) launching 3 asteroids onto the battlefield. All of which scatter harmlessly off the table. Not wasting any time they use their 3rd strategic asset which was an orbital bombardment on the hellhemmer. Thankfully it only caused a drive train damaged result. Finally they used their 4th and final strategic asset (they had an extra one since we had 1 more super heavy) which was the tractor beam. Again they targeted the hellhammer and were a little more successful this time and blew off its main gun.
In the shooting phase a squad of outflanking deffkoptas finally puts the cursed bassy out of its misery. One of the fighta bombas took aim and blasted the lone hell tallon out of the sky. Finally on the right flank another deffkopta squad shot at a deflier and blew off it's battlecannon.
In close combat a squad of outflanking steelers and a brood lord killed a khorne biker squad on the right flank. A trukk mob of orks along with a warboss take out the oblits that crippled the stompa on the left flank. In the middle a lictor and a warboss each kill a russ. Finally a ssquad of lesser daemons is charged and killed by a boys mob.
Final chaos turn
Our turn opens up with our final scheduled bombardment on the tyrands, it kills a warrior, a guant and a truk, the buring wreak flew into a squad boy boys and killed 5 of them

.
Our shooting phase opens up with the vortex grenade scattering harmlessly. I reveal our 3rd and final strategic asset, which is an indiscriminate bombardment. My first blast kills a ork mob and cripples another on the center of the table. Their first blast immobilize one of my russes in the center of the table. My final blast wipes the brood lord and steeler squad on the right flank.
The rest of the shooting phase was spent mostly on trying to kill the 6 warbosses that were about to crash into the tanks in the center of the table. However only 2 of them go down after the combined fire of 3 super heavys and 5 russes. The bad luck of the hellhammer only continued as its demolisher cannon had 2 of the bosses in it's sights and wiffed. The 2 vanquishers also took shots at the advancing stompa which failed to do anything to it.
Final ork turn Well at this point everyone else had stepped out one by one during the opposite teams turn to grab a bite to eat so now it was my turn. I missed the majority of the turn but from what I heard, I did not miss 2 much. The shooting phase was largely ineffective. The stompa firing its lifta dropa and immobilizing a russ. However the assault phase which I was there for was deadly. The group of warbosses did a number to the russes in the middle of the table. The only bright spot for the chaos team was when one boss wiffed on the fellblade.
By the end of the turn we were all tired and it was clear that losing the russes in the middle of the table was the final blow to our war effort. 4 of the 5 objectives were clearly in their hands and so the game ended 5 hours after it began. A hard fought, but enjoyable battle.
