Infiltrating Broodlord
|
I attended CanGames 2009 in Ottawa (Canada) this past weekend, and the 40k "Adepticon-style" tournament was lots of fun. Twelve themed tables, each with its own special mission and victory conditions. The themed scenery on the tables was great. I was lucky enough to get to play on both the airfield table as well as the pyramid table. Sadly I only won 1 of 3 games, losing two. However, I did manage to come away with Best Painted Single Figure! wOOt!
Out of 24 armies, the distribution was:
7 generic Space Marine armies
1 Blood Angels
1 Ultramarines
1 Dark Angels
1 Space Wolves
2 Orks
2 Chaos Space Marines (including my Deathguard, and a Thousand Sons army)
1 Eldar
2 Tau
1 Necrons
1 Imperial Guard (modeled as Lost and the Damned)
1 Daemonhunters
...and I don't recall what else. More Space Marines? There were definitely no Tyranids and no Dark Eldar.
The Bad Moons Ork army won the Cheese Award (lowest Comp + lowest sports) and also Best General (heh).
CORRECTION: The grey Tau army won Best Painted Army.
The special missions for each themed table really made the event. Though many of them were recycled from 2008 (with no changes to account for 5th ed) they all worked pretty well.
Here's a pic of the Deathguard army that I took to the event. More pics of the other armies to follow.

The best painted army isn't bad, the paint is within the lines and such but the colour choices are poor. Green and red together almost always reminds people of christmas, anyone in my play group would automatically dub them 'christmas marines' . Also, the white is highly contrasting to the red, he should have gone with a slightly more neutral colour like beige to keep the ranking system but flow better with his army. I like the details done on the vehicles though.
There was no monolith in the necron army??? I can't imagine that guy placing well, especially if he ran into the Daemonhunter guy with triple LR.
Looks like some good terrain on those tables too

Nuclear: Properly pronounced new-clear, not new-cue-lir. There is no 'u' between the c and l, so stop saying it because it just makes you sound like a dumbass. This includes nucleolus, and all other derivatives of the word.

Nope, no Monolith in the Necron army...it was against him that I got my only win of the day, heh (would have phased him out too, if we'd had time to play our 5th turn). 5th ed is really cruel to non-fearless models who lose close combats...
Yeah, that Tau army was really nicely painted. The table on the foregrounds is like the holo-chess table from the Millenium Falcon, with a green grid and two tiny Crisis Suit models duking it out on it (I think that's a forgeworld model, but I could be wrong). Though the crappy Macro on my camera couldn't do justice to either the Green Marines nor the grey Tau, here are some more pics of those two armies:
Edit: Damn, I really miss my old Canon. This Nikon really blows. Maybe I should get a tripod (and a new Canon).

Whats funny is that that tourney used to be the only tournament in Ottawa. Now its probably the 'worst" of the bunch, Game Summit being the best. GW Battle Bunker now being closed is a slew of tourneys gone from the calendar as well.
I'll be attending Summer and Fall Game Summits and will post pics from there as well. THe grey Tau army is from one of my old employees from GW named Jason. There are few people out there more into Tau than him, his army always is a head turner.

Whoops! My bad. I got the two guys mixed up. I think both their names start with "J"...
Much apologies. I've gone and corrected my posts above.
