Subject: Librarian Powers - How to use?

Ok so i bought myself a shiny librarian in terminator armour because I wanted a psyker in my army.
So now comes the question 'what is the most appropiate power to take? which ones are better to use, or which make a good combination?'
All in all i have a TON of questions about the Librarian powers so if you guys could simply break them down for me in a comprehensive way i'd appreciate it very much. Pros/Cons, Combinations, What units does it work best with/against?
I'm doing an Ultramarines army if that helps any.

Reroll inv saves is always a good one - helps take care of any nasty CC units (such as SS/TH termis...) as well as allowing you to shred daemons.
Always worth having the second power option as well - forcedome can be handy at times, but is very situational.

I have always chosen the Gate of Infinity and the Avenger but I often find myself using only the Avenger because he has a jump pack. The ability to move 12" and shoot off cover-ignoring ap3 flamer of death threatens almost any enemy. One of my regular opponents has even said that it is this librarian that scares him the most (he usually uses berzerkers). Then again a dark angel player couldn't care less about ap3.
The Gate is a handy power indeed but only in rare situations. Maybe I should use large squads of sternguards to make it more useful. Rapid firing hellfire rounds annihilate anything. All in all Null Zone is probably better.
But an epistolary is another thing.

For fun I go with Gate.
I usually run Force Dome otherwise. Really only use the Libarian for its hood more then anything.

Honestly I dont personally enjoy avenger as much as smite, i lubs the smite, and though libys are death in cc, since I run a gate/smite libby with my LotD, they are fun nasty being able to teleport all over the place, fire heavy weapons, and then jump ship , other than that, dunno if i would ever use gate on sterns, I dont see the point its such a risk to lose a guy... just my 2 cents...

Armies I play:

Smite is crappy because a librarian has only bs4! The avenger is a sure and heavy attack.
Gate is VERY useful when used with sternguards. It is a known tactic to use like two of these squads and two librarians in pods with locator beacons. That however does not fit into Ultramarines' tactics.
I stand for the Avenger, the Gate and Null Zone.

Gate, then Vortex of Doom! (you can in termi armour)
I try it just for the lulz! (specially when one of them goes wrong!) I think I'm an ork player at heart, so my termi libby just ends up being used like a shokk attak gun

Tigurius (or however you spell it). You don't have to choose powers, and you get to use 3 per turn.
Also, Gate + Vortex seems like hilarious fun, especially with a relentless Librarian.
