Now I realize with the new rules people like to play/experiment with lists.

But I must say I played a game yesterday that really annoyed me.

I'm not going to post the lists except for these facts:

Annihilation : Dawn of War

He had 3 LR variants, and 6 chimera's with HQ, Troops, etc.

I played my 2 Mek, 2 drea/9 kan list but included Zagstruk w/15 boys.

He quit at the end of Turn 2 because Zag didn't scatter and was lined up to assault his Psych Chimera and because he failed to kill anything in his shooting phase.

I wasn't happy. Took longer to set-up than to actually play 2 turns. . .

Needless to say, he is probably changing his list again.

Question: What's the point of him changing his list? He doesn't even know if this one doesn't work yet.

Zag was lined up to assault his chimera... so what? One chimera goes down, the guys pop out and drop a weaken resolve bomb, and minimal casualties see them running 3d6" away.

No point to changing your list if you don't even know what's wrong with it. [add inquisitor and mystics]

I agree. What a crybaby. ONE Chimera will die and he wants to pack up? N00b...

I don't know. Maybe it's a knee jerk reaction, but I don't know why he stopped. He still had PLENTY of armor and guns to take down my boyz, but the last thing he says is "So all my templates scatter to nothing, but Zag comes in and it's a hit. Well, good game."

And I'm standing there thinking GAK!

Sounds like he needs to grow up. You win some you lose some, its how 40k (and life in general) is.

Sounds like someone who read and internet list, heard its awesome against orks and then did not realize you still need to actually play well to win with it, and that it does not just mean you auto win every game you play.

Definite maturity problems, I dont know if thats an anomalie but I would look for more adult opponents.

He doesn't "pop out" because there is no where to go. Zagstruck and 15 stormbozy can completely surround the chimera.

Sounds more like a poor opponent than a poor list.

Quitting because one set back? Losing his PBS, somehow his best unit? Sounds like an opponent not worth fighting.

He can still do an emergency disembark. Of course they are pinned, but you've got the rest of the IG army sitting there to kill the stormboyz which shouldn't be too difficult. sounds like a big whiner.

I probably would have stuck around longer, but if the IG player had really failed to kill anything by the end of Turn 2, I would totally understand why he might be ready to give up.

It sounds like he wasn't very polite about doing it, but players shouldn't be forced to finish a game that is clearly lost. A polite concession is every bit as meaningful to me as a victory where every turn is played.

He can't do an emergency disembark if there is no place to go. He must be able to deploy all the guys in his squad at least 1" away from an enemy. If the transport is surrounded there is not enough room in the "footprint" of the transport to emergency disembark the squad. It dies.

But if they just showed up and charged it is impossible to surround a chimera.

IIRC - I was about 3" away and had just put the models down.

His PC was in a chimera that was flanked on both sides by two other chimera's with IP w/melta's.

I wouldn't have had an issue saying since I couldn't technically surround the PC chimera they would get the pinning/disembark vs. losing the entire squad.

For me, he was a non-regular - maybe coming up just to test the "power" list against a noob? I don't know.

Anyway - just frustrating as my work schedule doesn't allow me a lot of time to play and when I get to I don't like being "given" the win after about 45min.

DoW didn't help his cause really as he only had 1 turn of effective shooting (ineffective in this case) which was Turn 2. But a lot of things have to go right for me to survive with what I did; which I agree if things are going well for me at the beginning - it rarely stays that way.

Most people I know have just seen something happen and just want to quit, normaly on the 4th turn. He should've stayed it out, like you said, it took longer to set up than to play.Even if your about to die a horrible green 40k death you should stay and fight it out "Heroes of Armadeddon! You have withstood the evil savagery of the Orks, they have nothing left for you to fear.So raise the black banners of vengeance, now is out time!"

Right on. Also, playing out a game that you have effectively already lost is an excellent opportunity to learn valuable lessons. It allows you to see a combination of different units in various situations. You can learn the strengths and weaknesses. Rather than quitting, your opponent should have taken this opportunity to study and learn about his army and units.

Well, new codex I'm sure things will be inconsistent while things work out.

I agree though - I've had games where just because I get a good landing, doesn't mean Zag is going to penetrate.

I think you are both acting immature.

Him for quitting and you for whining about it.

It took long to set-up? A Dawn of War scenario took long to set-up?
Even a standard scenario/mission/set-up doesn't take long when one side is Mech and the other is Dreadwall.

Yes, having your opponent quit on you is annoying. I have a friend I playtested my Orks against (back with the old codex). After three games of getting pounded to shreds before I could do anything, I finally made it to his battleline in the fourth game. When he saw me reaching his line he said; "Ok. I conceed. You have reached me with a sizable number of Orks and now you are going to slaughter me. I quit".

My response was something along the lines of; "You just take you licks, boy. I have been pounded to bits for three games straight. It's time for some payback". Of course he relented and I finally stomped his rear.

Point of the story? Yes, I can see your side of it.
But a simple "Yeah, it looks pretty bleak. You was robbed (just a consolation). Let's set up real quick and go again", usually gets you another game.

Are you even sure he was saying "Good Game" and seriously quitting? I might make a quip like that when I think the game might be lost, but I don't pack it up until the fat old man with eldar sings.

If you pouted about it and took him seriously when he said it, then of course that will make him serious because nobody wants to finish a game with a pouter.
