Hey there any one have any ideas how to make kommandos without purchasing a second box of kommandos .I am trying to make a bigger than 5 man unit and not have duplicates of the 5 from the box set especially in the case of the nob. I still want the unit to look similar but not be the exact same models ...preferably wanting sumfing based around plastic boyz or some plastic parts at least to keep it cheap.


Any one have soem ideas or links to people who have already done this etc ??

Well it sounds like youve got most of the general idea already. A box of boyz is a great start there. The kit is fairly cheap and they have TONS of bits in there. Id say come up with some goggles and gas masks. Other then that its mostly in the paint job. I think some ink pen tubs cut up could be the start of some goggles. Might be too big around but I think it should do. Just remember to make them look as cool as possible.

Just some basic ideas here:

Nurna boyz: If your taking burnas in the unit then 2 basic burna boyz from the burna/loota box will work, just add some stik bombs to them to snazz them up a bit.

Normal boyz: The backpack from the heavy weapons in the boyz box should work well.
Put that on the back of an ork, snazz him up with extra bitz from other sets (once again, stik bombs work) pouches, it all works.

Heads: In the loota/burna box alot of the heads look great for kommandos.
Simply swap heads about.


Its easy enough to make plastic kommandos, just requires some kit bashing and time.

Also, you can get some IG backpack bitz from Ebay and use them on your boyz as well. Lots of people also seem to use a certain knife out of the Boyz box and attach it to the back packs to give it a certain sense of uniformity.

Or you could try to get some of the old Kommandos from ebay or something.

Or you can customized using some Arrer Boyz from fantasy Orcs like this guy...

A little green stuff on the faces and the backpacks is all it takes. I also used some of the old stikkbomb metal bitz for mine. This is a pretty crappy pic but you get the idea. They're made from AoBR boyz.

Try my Plastic Kommando's WIP thread. All you need is some plasti-card to make the backpacks, a bit of putty for straps and lots of plastic bitz that I am sure any Ork player will have a mountain of.

I would add a few to the ranks who are being very stealthy. Like a bush with nothing more than an arm with something killy and a head sticking out.

I have seen pictures of these kinds of Kommandos elsewhere on the net...the guy used the GW tree foliage to camouflage the Orks and it looked really effective.

When I get some free time (hahaha) I am going to try the same idea, but have them as a seperate unit to the ones I already built.

My favorite is still the kommando holding a picture of a Space Marine in front of him.
