Title basically says it all. I'm in need of a somewhat cheaper camera that'd work great for posting pics online. What cameras do you all use to post shots of your models?

Just get the point n shoot that you like most.* Preferrably one that can shoot in RAW format (easier to adjust white balance) and with aperture priority mode. Get a cheap tripod as well so you can use a large aperture-value (which usually means longer shutter-times). I bought my younger sister a GorillaPod which she kinda likes. It's easy to setup and not as bulky as a full-size tripod.

Large aperture-value = longer depth of field (DOF)
Small aperture-value = short DOF

For examples: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/depth-of-field.htm

What you usually want to avoid is pictures of a small object (in this case a mini) looking like this: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/17563-grot1.html (taken with a small aperture value) in which none of the models are fully in focus.

Am I just making stuff more complicated? >_<

P&S cameras that have gotten good reviews lately: Canon SD880IS & Canon A590 IS & Canon G10 You might wanna look for the older, but still very capable G9 online for a good savings.

*Why? Because most of the current generation P&S in the same price-range are almost equally the same in terms of picture quality etc. What differs is controls and added features. (Canon G10, Panasonic LX-3 etc.)
ETA: Explanation "any point and shoot" and to add some camera options.

Any camera with a macro function will do. I use a Fuji s1000 which I'm getting better with. Retails at around £100

Any camera with a macro function will NOT do. I had a macro function on my old camera and the only way that I could get a remotely decent pic was to set the shot up from a few feet away and zoom in. Not only did the pics turn out bad but the digital zoom also lowered the resolution significantly.

I picked up a Panasonic LMZ-8 for $75 shipped on ebay and couldn't be happier. It takes awesome closeups. If you look in my gallery the difference between the pics that I took with my old camera and the ones that I've taken with my new one is pretty obvious. It's easy to use with plenty of features. I was almost sold on the canon A590 IS. It got great reviews and they're easy to find for around $100. Do a bit of research before you buy.

I don't use a cheap camera for it (but I've never OWNED a cheap camera).

Any compact these days with a macro setting can do it (but there are issues with some of them. Autofocus not liking certain tonal ranges in backgrounds, being one).

The TWO KEY issues are:
1) camera stability (so use a tripod, gorillapod, stack of books, beanbag, whatever. Don't try to hand-hold it ).
2) Lighting. Good indirect lighting (directional lighting gives shadows that may be excessive).

Don't use a flash, and try not to take pics indoors under fluoro lights. USE the MACRO setting (little flower symbol) as well, and if it works with the self-timer, even better.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
