Hey everyone, starting up Warmachine, figured I'd give this list a run.

Skarre
2x Deathrippers
Skarlock
Bane Knights x6
Bile Thralls x6
Mechanithralls x10
Satyxis Raiders x6
-Sea Witch

497 total

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what my game plan will be. I know the Knights are dead hard, especially with Dark Guidance. Bile Thralls explode and make death upon people. The Mechanithralls are there as backup protection and sacrificial units for Focus Battery, the Skarlock there so I don't have to spend Focus to make the battery.

Raiders.. I just like them.

How will you kill heavy jacks? I don't see much armor piercing beyond the 6 Bane Knights, and even they are only really damaging a heavy on the charge.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Mark 1? What are heavy jacks?

I kid. But only a little.

The plan was to use Corrosion due to Skarre's Rain or Bile Thralls and attack them with the Cankerworm. Its special ability halves medium or large-based models' armor when it's under corrosion. I would imagine there aren't too terribly many heavy jacks in a 500pt game, so the Cankerworm should be able to use it's Stealth to get into position for a strike. That's the intent, at least.

What do you mean Mark 1? I see a lot of things talking about Mark 2... what is it? A new edition or something? And what do you mean "What are heavy jacks?" I'm confused.

Sorry.

Mark I is the current edition of the game. It's like World War I, you only call it World War I because
you know about World War II.

Warmachine just tested for its second edition. It was a big deal and took place in April.

My joke about Mark I and heavy jacks is that they are hardly present. In Mark II many people
plan their strategies around at least two heavy warjacks because of the buffs they got.

Mark II is scheduled to release in January I think. To upgrade your army you have to
buy the new rulebook and faction decks. There will be army books, of course, but I think those
will just be compilations of information rather than game devices. If all you get are the
decks you should be just fine.

So should I be thinking more about Mark II strategies and finding out more about whatever new test rulesets they have for it? Or should I just kind of learn MkI since that's what's currently being played?

Buy models you like the look of not the rules for. Don't buy more than one of anything and when buying units buy the maximum or minimum number of models for it (usually 6-10). Avoid Mercenaries, that way you'll only need to buy one deck in January.

You'll not be hit too hard (of at all) by MkII that way. Your list looks good for MkII, there'll be some room in that for a heavy Warjack.

Pirate Queen Skarre (-6)
Skarlock (2)
Deathripper (4)
Deathripper (4)
Bane Knights [min] (6)
Bile Thralls [min] (5)
Mechanithralls [max] (5)
Satyxis Raiders [min] (4)
Satyxis Raider Sea Witch (2)

26/35

In MkII I'd put in a Seether (8) and a Necrosurgeon (1) in there.
