Is Marneus Calgar allowed to join Honour Guard squads now, or is that a thing of the past, as it was always in the old codex that he could.

Not only have you turned your back on the Emperor and stepped from His light, you have profaned His name and almost destroyed everything He has striven to build. You have perverted and twisted the path He has laid for Mankind to tread. As your own decrees have stated, there can be no mercy for such a crime, no pity for such a criminal. Calgar is an Independent Character, he can join whatever squad he wants. However, if he does join up with one of his 0-3 Honour Guard Squads, he still counts as an Independent Character, so Can be Picked out in Assault. It does not form a Retinue.

They can be found in the Independent Character Section of the 5th edition Warhammer 40,000 Rulebook.

It also does nto fulfill ANY of the necessary conditions for being a retinue - marneus deosnt HAVE to join it being the most obvious one.

Honor Guard and Command Squads are just units now.
So ICs can join them if they want or don't want. It makes things much simpler now, especially now that you can join the unit in reserves or in drop pods.

Because, as stated, it isn;t a retinue. It satifies NONE of the criteria for being a Retinue, Calgar not being forced to join it the biggie.
Sorry for the late reply, been too busy Drinking way too much Ale

I do like with Calgar that he can take 3 Honour Guard, therefore theortically an army can take 4 Honour Guards squads!!!

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |
