Looking at the sternguard units then going over some sister of battle lists I noticed that really Sternguard may be viable with the following build.

6 Man Sternguard w/ 4 Combimeltas ; 2 H. Flamers w/ Razorback w/ lascannonw/twinplasma

This comes out to 245 points now could optionally drop the 2 h. flamers.

Anyway I wanted peoples thoughts on this.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I like it, something for everyone in that unit - H.Flamers for the hordes, melta/las for tanks, plenty of hellfire and plasma for tough guys like plaguemarines or termi's.

People may say that it's a lot of points for just 6 men but I think in a game it would have great flexibility, and that would make them worth it.

What do people do for modelling Heavy flamers for spacemarines?

Sister of Battle matches up really well.

Terminator sprue would be a good place to start for the Heavy Flamer.

You really dont need to have all that invested into one squad. The dragonfire bolts play the roll of "ranged flamers" and they are already included. 20 pts could be better spent especially if its in a 1500 or less list IMO. Unless your playing a Vulkan list, then it would be acceptable because of the "twin linked" rule.

Instead of Heavy Flamers, why not combi-flamers so that you can keep the special ammo?

I converted heavy flamers from using the terminator heavy flamers, just chopped the top half of the termie arm off and replaced it with a space marine arm chopped at the same place. The hand is the same size, so no need to change that. It looks good and is easy. I have something like that in my test Crimson Fists army except I go ahead and use the unit of 10 so I can combat squad if I feel like it.

I am planning on using IG heavy flamers from the command squad box for my sternguard. But I use Salamanders. I dunno how worthwhile the heavy flamers would be in such a setup. No firepoint in the razorback and las/plas is best sitting still, while you prolly want that squad played more agressive.

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

I like it; Heavy Flamers are 5/4 Assault 1 Template and so ignore cover. What more could you want? Dragonfire bolts are 4/5. Roasted Stormtroopers, anyone?

[EDIT for nasty thought] Now, I LOVE the LC/T-L PG turret, but considering the overall gist of your idea here, how about the T-L Heavy Flamer turret, as well? The downgrade, + 5 points would get you Extra Armor, or a Storm Bolter and Dozer Blade for tearing through the bush to deliver those nice templates. I can already smell the rotisserie Kroot.

Quite a slow weak vehicle, moving 0" to fire everything, 6" to fire either the plasmaguns or the lascannon. Its good as a static gunboat but poor as a forwardly mobile assault boat.

Its go no fire-points, so they will have to disembark to fire at anything. Itll have to move at cruising speed if you want to catch anything with those h.flamers/meltas so you wont be able to fire the main weapon at all..

6 models @ 35pts/model - They will be dead very quickly & it will be quite easy for them to be stranded.

Id say either go with a full squad on foot & hug cover oor use a drop pod or land-raider as a mechenised delivery system.

Raz - I think he's already considered the points quite well and thoroughly. Don't get down on the man for thinking outside the box, that's the only way new combinations can be created and proven. Sure, it may not be optimal in the SM lists you're used to seeing, but robust, tricky units like this will change the overall mechanic of the army. Space marines ARE elite. We pay out the yin-yang for every cool advantage we have. I really think that this isn't inefficient, its just a different tactic, and would require some re-tooling of "common" space marine list-building wisdom to see it's potential. I happen to have a lot of experience with Razorbacks, so I'm already familiar with lists that make the most of light tanks. For some reason, a vast majority of players simply dismiss these options.
