I have talked about this before, but I am bored and kind of working on something so I am curious what people think.
A+
---
Combat squads, any weapons, no upgraded close combat Veteran.
10 Tactical Marines, Special Weapon, Heavy Weapon OK, upgraded close combat Veteran OK
A
---
7+ Space Marines, upgraded close combat Veteran OK, no other upgrades.
A-
---
5+ Space Marines, no upgrades. Dude they are Space marines.
Other choices, such as Combat Squads with upgraded close combat Veterans would be considered weaker choices. Combi-weapons on Veterans are always OK since they will probably get a chance to use them before you-know-what. And because they are cool.

I'm not sure I follow the question here...
But if I do, I don't see any reason to take anything other than full 10 man squads. At most, you might have one undersize squad, just to get a few more Marines on the table, but because you can Combat Squad, there's no good reason to pass up the heavy and special weapons.

I'm a fan of Multi-Melta / Plasma Gun squads / no Sergeant upgrades + Rhino.
Cheap (for marines) and mobile.

I like squads of 6 because they can take and use a Razorback while still carrying Bolters. Of course you could always Combat Squad. Something like Las/Plas or Multi-melta/Plas + Razorback squad.
It is true that with 10 you can always take a Flamer or Melta at least.

I actually really like
10 man tactical squad w/ meltagun ; combimelta; H. Plasma ,meltabombs.
Razorback w/ dozerblade ;
The whole unit comes out to 240 points
It's badass though.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated. |

Sounds great. When I say upgrade I mean Power Weapon/ Power Fist, I'll change it.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
I like say a seven man squad with a Power Weapon or Power Fist because sometimes you just want a little more close combat and bolters are good anyway. Maybe you do not have Terminators, for example. And because they are Troop. Get out there and pound something.

I agree that not taking a full 10man squad just for the free weapons is kind of odd. Even if I had ~100 points left to spend and couldn't fit a full squad, I would probably go for scouts instead, just to get more bodies in the hopes of holding backfield objectives. Marines with bolters are ok and all, but without special weapons of some sort they are a really expensive platform.

Personally I am a big Rhino fan, packed with full Tac squads.
Sgt have either PW or PF, melta or flamer, and HW is a Missile. I want cheap HW because I usually do not combat squad.
Love tactical squads, they have so much character

Powerfist is a great combo with a Combi-Melta or -Flamer, while Powerswords are excellent when paired with Meltabombs.
