hey all!
I am almost finished assembling my Khornate daemonic horde and am very interested in starting a jungle fighting themed guard army next. Imagine Straken, Harker and Marbo with lots of veteran units plus Vendettas for air drops. The only tank would be a couple of Griffons. I am also considering fielding some inquisitorial allies to act as advisors.
So the army would be all about infiltrating and air dropping units into battle. My main problem is I abhor the plastic Catachan models currently available. The Elysian drop teams from Forgeworld could work but I would much rather use plastic models as the base since they are much simpler to convert. Any good suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Go with Cadians, and trade for Catachan heads or the like.
Just use a good camo scheme, and it'll work nicely.

Fluffwise, Catachans hate "advisors". You have a 17% chance of not being able to use a commissar in your army b/c of it (if memory serves). I think their codex says "They hate others telling them what to do" and inquisitorial advisors would just not be kosher with catachans. The rest of your plan sounds OK though, best of luck finding some suitable models.

Well I wasnt intending to take any commissars as you said it just doesn't fit the theme but you don't really have a choice when the =][= starts sticking their noise in your business. The allied choices would just be an =][= Lord and a Vindicare assassin. I think the Vindicare really fits into the theme and is not overpowering. An Eversor assassin would be nice too since they can infiltrate but I currently like the shooter better.
I don't want the old GI Joe look... Something along the lines of commandos would look awesome. The marauders I think would require a lot of converting.
G Automatically Appended Next Post: I don't like the Catachan bare arms tough guy look.

I like the Catachan rules, but like you, dislike the over pumped steroid figs. I was thinking that if I did Guard, I'd go for Urban jungle fighters, picking up the pig iron heads with the visors, and finding some nice assault rifles to replace the lasguns with. I also love the Valkyries and would be air dropping everything.
If you don't like the bare arms tough guy look, there's not much you can do with the Catachan figs though, so pretty much just find ones that fit your taste.

Catachans are naked with vest ontop , cadians have sleaves.
cadian shoulder pad also too small to match catachan large arms.

Use Cadian models - just coz they're in the jungle doesn't mean they have to take their shirts off Head swaps would be an easy way to avoid looking too Catachan.

Someone else on another board has suggested the plastic SM scout with Cadian heads and arms. It sounds good. Thoughts?

If you think it looks cool go for it. Might as well as keep the scout head since you dont like cadian helmets.

well i was thinking that if you put the cadian arms on, it would look like they have long sleeve jackets/ shirts. Most of the shirts end right at the shoulder, with a little GS, or filing you could put the arms on without the shoulder pads and I think it wouldn't look bad.
