Subject: Nob Bike list for 1000 point tournament

Hello all, this is my first post, it probably wont be my last.
I have been playing Orks since the new codex came out, so over a year, there is going to be a tournament at my local hobbytown for 1000 points and to be honest, i really want to stomp the bejesus out of the kids there, so i think i am going to make a cheesed out nob biker list, so here it is.
1X Warboss + Bike= 100pts
The nob bikers will all be upgraded differently so that i can allocate wounds as i want and my opponent has to essentially do 11 wounds before one of them dies.
10 nob bikers 450pts
Nob#1 PK+Shoota/rokkit kombi + Cybork=35
Nob#2 PK+Cybork=30
Nob#3 PK+Cybork+Bosspole=35
Nob#4 Big Choppa+Cybork=10
Nob#5 Big Choppa+ Cybork+ Waagh Banner=25
Nob#6 Big Choppa+Shoota Skorcha+ Cybork=15
Nob#7 Big Choppa+Shoota Rokkit+Cybork=15
Nob#8 Big Choppa+Eavy Armor+Cybork=15
Nob#9 Big Choppa+Shoota Skorcha+Eavy Armor+Cybork=20
Painboy#10 +Grot orderly+Cybork=20
So the bikes total out to 670Pts
I fill the rest of the list with boys to capture objectives
30xOrk Boyz + 3 Rokkits +1 nob+Big Choppa+Bosspole=230
Please give me some comments and ideas for me to consider.

Nob bikers are strong, yes, but there are plenty of things out there that mess them up pretty bad. Absolutely anything that causes instant death is scary as hell, especially some of the S8-10 templates in the new guard codex, flamer templates of any sort are also good for messing them up, and when all else fails, they don't get their cover save in CC, where a powerfist, powerklaw, chainfist, thunder hammer, or even dreadnoughts (and their equivelants) makes them cry. There's also leadership tactics, Psyker Battle Squads combined with the above means 67% of your army just ran off the board, Mind War on the painboy can deny Nobz their FNP I think, and a lash of submission can just put them on the happy (read:painful turbo boost denying) side of difficult terrain, heavy weapons, and meatshields. In short: Yeah, they're probably worth 670-ish points, but taking them at such a low points value is just begging for karmic misfortune to befall you in the form of a Twin Linked heavy flamer or a Demolisher Siege Cannon.

What would be stronger, in my opinion, is ~100 Boyz. At lower point costs (less than 1500), Ork advantages in numbers are very hard to deal with.
Here is what I would run:
HQ:
Big Mek w/ KFF
Troops:
30x Shoota Boyz
w/ 3x Big Shootas, Nob w/ PK, Bosspole
30x Shoota Boyz
w/ 3x Big Shootas, Nob w/ PK, Bosspole
30x Shoota Boyz
w/ 3x Big Shootas, Nob w/ PK, Bosspole
That leaves you with room for:
14 Lootas, for light anti-tank.
5 Grotzooka Kans, for general Heavy 2 Str6 Blasts.
12 Kommandos w/ 2 Burnas and Snikrot
Depending on what you expect, you have plenty of options. Sinking that many points into Nob Bikers is just asking them to eat a Demolisher round or something, leaving you without enough to win the game with. At 1k, its just not wise.

While I see what you're working towards with your equipment distribution, 'eavy armor on a biker nob is a wasted 5 points that I would argue doesn't make the model different in game terms, since the bike gives the same 4+ armor save.
Additionally, at 1000 points, do you really need all ten bikers? Maybe drop a couple and give yourself some flexibility by being able to field another small unit. Dropping 2 bikers gives you either a Deff Dread, 3x Kans, a small loota/kommando squad, or maybe another smaller unit of boyz.

You need the ten bikers to make them fearless. Otherwise they are vulnerable to pinning and tank shock prior to losing nobz.
I think you might be better served to turn the 30 ork unit into 20 orks and about 20 grotz, to come on from reserve and capture an objective late game. Grotz also pack a decent punch shooting, with BS3. This also gives you another unit.
I ran a similar style army based around a nobz squad on foot at a recent tourney, and I can tell you, if you run into a foil for your bikerz (like ten assault termies with thundershields and shrike) you will be screwed, and wishing you had some additional units.
At 1000 points, it may not be necessary to have a fully differentiated nobz squad, because there honestly isn't too much that can put that many wounds a turn to make that big of a difference. A 7-8 man nobz squad charging something will still wreck it at 1000 points. This also frees up some points for other things in your army, like some outflanking Kommandoz (and maybe even snikrot).

The bikes already give an armor save, you don't need to get additional heavy armor for these nobs. Also, the invulnerable save from cybork body is (arguably) not worth the point cost- you have 11 wounds and FNP- that should be enough for a 1000 point game. EDIT: I thought a bit more about those Combi-rokkits- that is probably not enough anti-tank to be of great use on the nobs, and if you shoot at a tank, that means you are out a round of shooting 18 times and slugging it out with an infantry unit. Not a good trade-off. Consider giving the Warboss a PK, attack squig, and having him break off from the pack to go tank-hunting.

The Cybork doesn't help much at getting shot at unless they have some of the new IG weapons that don't let you take the cover save.
But, they're probably still worth taking for CC because then every hit from a PK will instant death a nob with no save being able to be
rolled since it took away you're armor and FNP. Same goes for Power weapons except w/o the instant death.
In the overall sense, I'd agree with Em_en_oh_pee the most. A lot of boyz rocks at low points (and does plenty well at high points).
Kans with KFF are reasonably tough to kill, grotzookas are great, especially against other armies with lots of guys, and snikrot will make your opponent deploy differently, maybe being
closer to you so you assault a turn earlier, or at least they take a lot of fire away from the rest of your army for a turn.

You must understand that for an ork a day that starts off killing something with your bare hands, and ends with those same hands being chopped off in battle, is a good one.
What's betta than one choppa? Two choppas!!! Two choppas is one more than...is one times da...IS LOTS MORE FUN!! WAAAAGH!!! |
