Subject: I'm a Dakka illiratate, How do I cut out bits of peoples threads So I can respond to them?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. But I always see thread responses where folks have a box with other folks comments cut out and pasted and then they respond to them specifically. How do I do that?
I tried cutting and pasting but that did not seem to work when I tried to preview my post.
Thanks

There's also multi-quoting and umm...
If someone would like to explain that I'd love to listen!

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent. |

Click the multi quote button on any post that you want to quote and then click the reply button. It will add all the quotes into your reply post automatically instead of just one as you get with the quote button. You can toggle multiquote on and off for any given post too in case you change your mind.

That said, avoid quoting entire posts and adding a single-sentence reply.
Also avoid breaking a post into lots of little quote where you reply to each separately, as if a post is just a collection of parts.
If you want to respond to a post, the best way to do it is to simply address the poster by name and copy/paste to avoid mis-spelling their name.
