HQ - 117
Co Commander, Powerfist, Bolt Pistol
4x vets, GL
Astropath

Troops - 292
Plat Commander, Bolt Pistol
4x vets, Flamers

Squad 1 - Autocannon, GL
Squad 2 - Autocannon, GL
Squad 3 - Autocannon, GL
Commissar - Power Weapon

Troops - 140
Vets - Demolitions, 2x Meltaguns, Heavy Flamer, Shotguns

Troops - 140
Vets - Demolitions, 2x Meltaguns, Heavy Flamer, Shotguns

Scout Sentinels - 80
2x with Autocannon

Vendetta Squad - 260
2x Vendies

Hydra Battery - 150
2x Hydras

Manticore - 160

Manticore - 160

Total - 1499 (12 KP's but can be blobbed to 10)

Basic Tactics would be to protect the Manticores and Hydras with the Infantry Platoon and the 2 mobile command squads while the Sentinels and Vendies outflank. The manticores and infantry will target enemy infantry while the Hydras down transports. The sents and vendies will come on looking for flank/rear shots against hard targets and the vets can be tasked to either tank hunting or objective clearing depending on circumstances.

Any thoughts?

I'd drop the powerfist in the CCS and give the squad more special weapons. You also may be better served with two leman russes instead of the maticores. You don't have a whole lot of armor for IG and you need something to soak up some shots.

Hmm interesting list however for a competitive lists I see a few weaknesses and misspent points.

HQ CCS: Astropath good in fact almost vital considering DoW, however the PF, Bolt Pistol and GL are just not needed, you either want the unit to have 4x Melta so they can benefit from Bring it Down or Flamers/Plasmas for MEQ/Infantry killing power, I wouldn't recommend giving your officer anything.

Troops:

again drop the BP on the Commander, I would consider giving these guys a Chimera or piling them in a Vendetta.

Also swap the GL out for PG, they may kill the odd Guardsmen but they are much more reliable and powerful weapons compared to a GL.

The Commisar is an interesting choice I can see for those KP games having a squad of 30 Men rarely running away is a good thing but considering this is going to be only 33% of your games you could spend the 50 odd points or so in a better place.

Vets are a real problem for me in this list, I would recommend giving them either all flamers or all meltas not a mixture of both this leads to the squad being okay at everything not great at one thing. consider having them all Meltas with Demo in a Valk/Vendetta/Chimera or do the same thing but with 2x Flamer 1x HF and nothing else on the squad/

Sentinals are a big waste of points here really, AV10 is not going to last long in a tournament game and they really are just a free KP walking around the table, especially to marines who can just walk up and punch it to death in combat.

Vendettas fine.

Hydras - I'd take 3 but that is just because they are awesome.

Manticores: I'm still not convinced on the reliability of these weapons, for 150pts you can have a Russ and overall they will kill more and have a better AV, more bang for your buck you might say.

Overall the list is good, however a few tweaks and a few points spent elsewhere would make it more powerful.

Suggestions: Add in a Valk aswell and pile the CCS in it, then pile the Vets in the Vendettas and you have a strong flanking force, whilst 2 Russ, 2 - 3 Hydras and the Platoon would make for a solid home objective/defensive firebase - if you plan on doing this I would Recommend every man who can take a PG in that platoon takes one.

Hope this helps

I have to agree with most of the points above, and as good as the manty's are offensively they will just die too fast as they are the only heavy threat you have so your enemy will direct all of his Heavy AT on them.

AV14 in 5th ed is too awesome to pass it up if you have the chance.

I wouldn't discount the Manticore to quickly, It's reall power comes from being barrage. Fire it indirect from a hidden location, there's usualy one good hidding place on a board. I'd trade out the other one for a battletank though.

I agree with 99 though, your officers don't need equipment, and kit your vets for one thing or another, not both.

Mechanicum Fleet 2000 1000
2000? (Almost all 2nd ed.)
I think that about covers it. For now.

OK. I don't want to lose the anti-tank from the vets so I'll swap the Heavy Flamers for meltas. That will save 20pts.

Losing the equipment from the officers saves another 20 and Dropping a manticore is another 160.

This give me 200 to spend on a tank. The obvious choice is an executioner to give me some plasma, but what do you think the best buy would be?

To be perfectly honest there was something else that I forgot to mention.

If you are trying to go for a competitive army 2 Scoring units simply are not enough, in a space marine army or any other MEQ equivalent you can usually get away with it however with Guard its simply not enough, especially if they may run on foot, for Guard in a Vet buildup I would recommend 4 as a healthy number, 3 as a minimum and thats still at a push.

I hope the critique helps I can't wait to see your revised list, its an interesting mix and I have to say I do like it.

Alll you need to do;

Drop the commissar power weapon. Hes not there for fighting, he's there for morale. Likewise on the CCS pfist - get 4x meltaguns instead. +20pts, -25pts. Sorted.

Get smoke launchers for the two scout sentinels (you can play tandem with the smoke launchers over two vehicles). You need to find 5 more points. A GL from an infantry squadren.

Split the vendettas into two squads of one. You do have the slots.

You have lots of choice what to put into the valkyries. As equipped, the vets do well on the ground (could work better perhaps with one/both squads equipped with forward sentires/grenadaires. You do loose out on the demo charges but they wont die in droves to small arms fire).

Two maticores will be scary. Good list

He's got 6 scoring units, 3x infantry squads, 1x PCS and 2x vets, that should be plenty

On a small note, the PCS-guys are not vets, they are regular grunts, only the CCS get vets

As for the list:
Split the 'dettas
demolitions is of doubtable value
drop heavy flamer from vets + officer equipment as said
some AV14 would be nice, I would probably swap both manticores for AV14 vehicles
