After looking over some of the army list reviews and army discussions I've begun to wonder how extensive "bad" choices go. What I mean is if you are in a friendly game/tournament situation and you are sitting across from somebody, are there any specific units they may take that would make you giggle (or even lol)?

Please be constructive in your criticism (i.e. state your case) and keep the hurr, hurr comments to a minimum.

NA, I've seen enough good players get taken down for being cocky/over-confident to giggle. If somebody has a unit like possesed, and they are known for good playing they have a kunnin plan. Hell I've taken cheap bad units to throw my opponet off at turnies. They deploy badly thinking I'm an easy kill.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Haven't seen it in a list online but I have played against a necron list that had 7 tomb spiders in it and it was a kill points mission. I didn't laugh or anything at the guy since he was obviously trying to maximize the MC aspect to get some HtH ability with a deceiver but it still...

Pick up game, the guy shows up with a 1850 Drop/Last Chancer guard army armed with nothing but Flamers and Demo charges, even on his Stormtroopers. His only two AT guns were Lascans mounted on Drop Sentinels.

I didn't think it was too bad of an army since I was playing Nids and I only had 4 TMCs. He precedes to suicide drop his Sentinels at point blank range and both scatter onto my army then unloads all his flamers and demos at my Carnifexes.

I still can't figure out what he was doing.

I played a guy who ran two tyrants and 6 maxed hormagaunt broods - full strength, eveyr upgrade. But hormagaunts are beasts, so I just climbed the nearest building, killed his tyrants as quick as I could, then tore up his gaunts from my 100% save vantage point for the rest of the game.

Classic. Have to keep that in mind the next time I face the Bugs.

I am a victim of a dreaded lol. I was playing High Elves and this guy (who actually ended up being pretty cool) pointed at my Silverhelms and asked, "Are those Silver Helms, why in the hell would you bring Silver Helms?" It was kind of embarassing, but oh well.

Vanguard Veterans. Especially if they have special weapons.

I faced a guy who blew almost all his points on a squad of vanguard vets, all armed with combi-plasma guns, in a drop pod. He also took a tricked out honor guard/command squad. It was pretty funny to see like 3/4 of his points invested into two squads.

EDIT: I mixed up Vanguard and Sternguard... whoops...

It is sad how poorly costed they are.

A squad of 10 VVs with TH/SS and Jump Packs costs 760 points.

The same as 19 Terminators with TH/SS.

While every unit can be usefull in some way, there are definatly some poorly implamented units.
Parriah have the problem of not being necrons. While they have some very interesting abilities, no WBB and quicker phase out leaves much better options else where.
Etherals are just DUMB. They are expensive as hell, have no combat abilities, and their one 'command effect' is not always desirable. On top of all that, if it dies, you take an army wide moral/leadership check (forgot which)
Spawn are pretty pathetic. Very easily distracted.
I'm always encouraged by seeing Ogryn fielded by my opponent. Bad leadership, stupidly expensive, mediocre damage and can't be transported. If I where to intentionally write a terrible unit for guard, it would in every way shape out to be the current ogryn.

If your opponent is using Ogryns for a "real" game (not Apoc. or unlisted), you can pretty well assume that you are up however many points they invested in them. It is just a bad bad unit.

Storm Troopers would fall under that banner as well - both types - nothing redeeming about them at all.

Wraithguard fall into the same category as Ogryn.

Blood angels assault vets (usually great, unless kitted out like this)

10 veterans
3 thunder hammers
10 storm shields
2 plasma guns
4 vets with meltabombs

515 points for 10 men

had someone play against me with them, its all well and good till you throw a unit of death company with chappy at them and kill off the entire unit in 1 turn

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.

Ogryn can actually be transported now, they changed that in the new Codex, but they're still overcosted for their role.

I fielded a unit of furies in a 40k Chaos Daemons army once, just to see how terrible they would be. It's like they wanted to add summoned lesser daemons to the Daemons book.

I use Stormtroopers quite well. They're really quite good at taking down MEQs with AP3.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Well they didn't get a new model kit, and they were half-way decent in the Real Chaos Codex, so there was no reason to keep them good. Might as well pimp the new model kits.

Ogryn have always been transportable (with a bonehead). They are pricey but can be very effective against the right targets.

The only one-up they have on Guardsmen is the ability yo hurt walkers in close-combat if you're Guardsmen do not have any krak grenades or melta bombs. Other than that, point for point they are not worth it compared to Guardsmen, even with their anti-armor abilities.

Why was it laughable? Most well-built Tyranid armies have a good amount of dangerous shooting to them.

Ugh, I remember whe my friend took 30 terminators, Abbadon, and Kharn in a 2000 point game, pimped them out, and didn't even give them transports. He had the bare minimum of troops (2 squads of 5 CSM), and was confident he'd crush my Orks.

Turn 2, all six of my battlewagons with deff rollas tank shock his terminators and kill every single one of them including Kharn and Abbadon. Good times, good times.

Agreed. With the new blast rules, deathspitter/strangler spam armies are where it's at for Tyranids.
