Faced a IG player the other day, who had a couple of demolishers with plasma cannon sponsons. He was saying that he had to roll gets hot for the plasma cannons, and that they overheated and couldn't fire if he rolled a 1. Also stated that since the model doesn't actually have wounds, that there was no other negative effect. Since I was going to pretty much ignore the gets hot on the vehicle anyway, just to give him a decent chance, I figured I'd come here and find out if that was the way it should go, or if there is something else to it?

Read page 31 under the heading "Gets Hot!" last sentence right before the example stat line of a plasma gun.

Vehicle mounted "gets hot" weapons DON'T (get hot, that is).

Vehicles mount better cooling systems and ammo feeds and stuff.

Your opponent was misinformed. Non-vehicle mounted plasma weapons get hot. Nothing else does (unless its rules specifically say so).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

There's already a thread about this...they got into a fight over the master of the ravenwing on jetbike (who has wounds but the cannon is "mounted" on the bike).

Many started armies including: / , , ....and Bretonnia

And like I said in that thread, it doesn't matter that the Plasma Cannon is Bike Mounted, only Vehicle mounted Gets Hot! Weapons do not overheat. A Jetbike is Not a Vehicle, its a jetbike, so is subject to Gets Hot!

I know it doesn't apply to Plasma Guns on vehicles, as a 1 is just a miss. However, if you fired a Blast weapon with the Gets Hot! rule (in this case the Plasma Cannons), don't you still have to roll a D6 prior to firing, with a roll of 1 negating the shot (as the gun does get hot, but the cooling systems kick in to avoid damage)?

Nope, vehicle Mounted Plasma never has to roll.

Page 31 wrote:Gets hot! represents the penchant of certain unstable weapons for overloading and badly burning their user. Roll to hit as normal, except that you must roll to hit even if the target is found to be out of range. For each result of a 1 rolled on its to hit rolls, the firing model suffers a wound (normal saves apply). Because of their additional cooling systems, weapons on vehicles are not affected by this rule.

Vehicle Mounted Plasma Never is affected by Gets Hot!. That includes the "Does not fire on a Roll of 1"
