Heya to all!

I dont know how common this is, but I saw no Chaos army build with this included:
Chaos Warriors with a shield and than a halberd/GW/additional HW (but just picking one weapon option!)?

First question from me, as a new player: would this be legal?

Second question is: how viable would it be?

My thoughts behind this are, that you are more flexible with your Warriors. You can decide if you want to have a 2+ save in CC or if you want to strike with +1A or maybe +1S more?
And you would keep your 3+ save against enemy fire.

Against some enemys it would be rather nice to have more attacks to slay down many small opponents that cant hit back than.
Or some enemys maybe ignore your save so that you would rather pick more Strength?

Warriors regiments are often not that big - mostly only up to 15. So it wouldn't be that much points to make a unit more flexible?

But I am new, didn't play yet and all this is theoretical, so I would like comments from more experienced players what they think about this idea
Thank you!

It it a lot of points. And you will rarely use them all.
Stick with shield and then maybe one more option such as great weapon.

Stick with shields. Great weapons might be worth it in larger games or against high toughness enemies.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

one of the players at my FLGS has warriors with both shields and GWs. The shields are still very useful for the +1 save to shooting/magic, and on fights he gets the charge on, he can crack out the great weapons and cut down the front rank of most blocks, often breaking them (they'll average just over 5 kills on anything under WS5, T4). He can still use the HW/shield in other fights, if he takes a charge from tough enemies, or simply needs his warriors to hold in place (to allow for countercharges, for example). The extra weapons do tend to add up for points though.

First question from me, as a new player: would this be legal? Yes, just declare what weapons you are using for that round at the appropriate time.
Second question is: how viable would it be? Reason chaos are good in CC is because how versatile they are. Normaly its shield/handweapon or s/gs or s/halberd. depending what the army needs.

2nd question. dont spend to many points on addign weapons that you wont use. spending extra 15 points for extra hand weapon is resonable for +1 attack against horde armies. while +2pts for GW gets expensive. take halberd instead of GW +1 str and you dont go last. Warriors have good initiative so in 2nd round of combat you can pull out those bad boys!.

I personaly going shield/board with halberds. after doing mathhammer +1 attack (5 additional attacks in combat) doesnt cause that many more wounds than shield and board. So taking halberds for the 2nd round combat extra punch!

there's no reason they can't buy all the weapons. should you? probably not.

for the record, chaos are good in CC because they've got rediculous stats and a 2+ save with hw/shield

I actually agree on the halberds, keeping that second turn start is important. however, IMHO, the only reason to switch out of HW/shield is if you figure you can break the unit's back on the charge, thus not receiving any return attacks at all. Other than that, the 33% increase to your saves is almost always better than whatever offensive gains you have. Besides, 2 WS5 S4 attacks are usually better than most other infantry as it is.

almost right, except you must commit to a weapon choice for an entire fight, not just the round. Whatever weapon you declare in the first round of combat is the one you're stuck with until they're freed from combat.

Shields and Great weapons 6 wide with an extra rank. The last tournament I played in, I faced two Chaos player and each used their WoC with this build. My poor elves bounced off of them.

Good to know. I thought you could change after the every round. .

Always take shields for chaos warriors & chosen. The added durability is certainly worth the cost. I'd probably favor halberds as an additional option for extra hittyness as it takes advantage of the warrior's good initiative.

90% of combats dont last more than one round, so the whole halberds over GW doesnt really come in handy except when fighting the other 10% (deamons and VC being the most obvious situation). When you think about it you will use the GW/halberd when youre going to go first and need the extra punch. If you are gong to go second, or you took GW and expect the enemy to stay you'd use the shields and rely on your 'normal' attacks.
Besides the 3+ armour save against shooting is great.

Please put this on your sig if you know someone, work for someone or are related to someone who suffers from stupidity. Stupidity is real and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity and sympathy does not help.
