I picked up a copy of the Starship Troopers rulebook with the intention of using my somewhat redundant 40k figures with it.

My immediate plan is to literaly play Starship Troopers with 40k figures before I move on to trying to write rules for figures.

If anyone has suggestions for proxy models and equipment please let me know. I'm planning to use Stormtroopers or Veterans in carapace armour to represent MI Cap Troopers from the rulebook but I'm on the lookout for suggestions.

The rules for the Cap Troopers already have good proxies for Sniper Rifles, Flamers, Grenade Launchers and Missile Launchers. Some help deciding upon appropriate uses for other Imperial weapons would be handy.

I've been using Space Marines as CAP Troopers because of the whole Power Armour with Jump Jets thing that Space Marines have going on. I think Imperial Guard would be LAMI or Light Armour Mobile Infantry (think the movie...). Something that's very useful to is to read the rules for installations very carefully - it means you can have a board full of interactive terrain!

Good point, I don't appear to have stats for LAMI in my book (they're the guys from the film right?).

I own very few Space Marines (one squad) so my thinking is that Carapace armoured and Power armoured Imperial troops will use the same proxys for the time being unless there's something between the M1A4 (cartoon) and LAMI (film) troops available from the Starship Troopers rulebook.

I think the Chickenhawk will make a nice Sentinel proxy.

The XM-550 CHAS looks like a good excuse to buy some of those sweet Pig Iron war robots.

Yeah, the LAMI are the ones from the film. Think the cartoon guys but without the ability to jump and a 6+ armour save...

I'd say give the Imperial Guard in flak armour a 6+ armour save (6+ dodge save for Sergeants/officers), and the guys in carapace armour a 5+ armour save.

Good idea with the Sentinel

The Pig Iron warbots are very cool. Good idea for a proxy too.

It seems that he thinks you're planning on playing Warhammer 40k with Starship Troopers miniatures.

The funny part is that Starship Troopers has a "rending" effect as part of its basic mechanics:

Each model has both a Target threshold and a Kill threshold. If a damage dice meets the model's Target threshold, say 4+, then the model can either make a successful Armour or Dodge saving throw or be put out of action. If a damage dice meets the model's Kill threshold, say 7+, then the model can either make a successful Dodge saving throw or be put out of action.

Notice that meeting the Kill threshold denies a model its armour save. Voila, rending. Some weapon traits make a model more likely to kill a model outright. Atomic munitions are killshot weapons, for example, killing models on the roll of their target number. Even if a model gets an Armour save, this save can be reduced by a weapon's Piercing trait. Yes, Starship Troopers has Armour saving throw modifiers.

I see.

@ Colonel: I'm planning to play the Starship Troopers rules with my 40k figures. The long term goal is to play 40k in 40 mins style battles (600 points) using the Starsip Troopers* rules the 40k codices and some pages of self written rules.

* Or another pre-existing game system, perhaps AT-43.

Wow, that last post of mine comes across as "Cock" with a capital "C". I'd like to apologize.

George Spiggott:

Have you tried the game system out yet?
