I played against IG in a tourament last weekend and I was kinda not sure about how they deploy platoons (or multiple command squads) and all that in dawn of war.

Dawn of war states that you deploy up to 2 troop units and up to 1 hq unit.

What I saw placed on the board was a unit of 30 blobbed up, a 10 man unit with a lascannon. a 6 man unit with 3 lascannons, a 6 man unit with 3 autocannons, a unit of 20 blobbed up, and a unit of 5 with melta guns, and a unit of 10 with an autocannon.

Is there anyway possible, that this was a legal deployment?

I am not an IG player, I will never be an IG player, I've only skimmed over the new IG codex. My opponent said that it was legal its in the codex somewhere. (Honestly I didn't mind cause his deployment was awesome for me to take advantage of, but I did ask him if it was legal)

That is not a legal move.

Every part of a platoon is a different unit.

Therefore he could do 1 unit of his HQ, and 2 units from a platoon, which could be a 40 man blob with a HWS, or a 10 man blob with a Chimera.

EDIT: it used to be a point of contention with the previous codex, but its been rectified in the new codex.

I agree with the post above me.

Platoons are counted as one unit for deployment, but that is overrided by how DoW works (to my knowledge). It is basically the same reason why deploying a unit and their dedicated transport counts as both of the troops units that you are allowed to deploy.

Platoons are counted as one unit for deployment,
This is not correct. They are considered on choice on the FOC, not as one unit.

Since they are separate units, then only 2 squads can be placed. (unless they are 'blobbed' together.)

For the moment its not legal

"Multiple Unit Choices: Note that occasionally the codex allow the player to include several units in his army at the cost of a single force organisation slot (like dedicated transports, ect). Apart from being bought as a single choice, these units operate and count as separate units in all respects."

But i wouldn't be surprised if ...

"Each infantry platoon counts as a single troop choice on the force organisation chart when deploying, and is rolled for collectively when rolling for reserves"

... gets FAQ into meaning they deploy at the same time

In other words. In the most generic sense, at most I should see 3 units. Which could be 2 huge blobbed up troops and 1 hq (which can't be blobbeb?)?

You Could, conversely, have 3 Chimeras deploying (2 from the Infantry Platoons and 1 for the HQ Squad).

And many Laughs were had by all

wouldnt it only be 2 since the platoon chimera counts as a troop choice for deployment in DoW?

Where is your saviour now?

I think he means you could deploy a chimera instead of the troops themselves - so 2 chimera as your troop slots, and 1 as your HQ. Meaning no bodies on the board, but 3 fast vehicles which can put out a fari amount of AV12 protected dakka.

Chimera's are not fast vehicles.
