Hey there folks, here's a start to my Imperial Guard army. This is flashed around various other places on the 'net, so I apologise if you've come across them before (I'm just seeking as much C&C as possible, and trying to remember to use forums I've registered at).

++++

With that out of the way, here's an introduction to my army (these paragraphs focus mainly on the Armour as I am still working on the Infantry fluff):

The Cadian 96th Infantry, 3rd Company are veterans of the Hamman's World cleansing and subsequent Tyrannic wars. It was on Hamman's world that they first fought alongside the 74th Armoured (commanded by General Joanned Eugen Fox) and due to their good performance were called to operate alongside each other repeatedly throughout their service. Now the old troopers have had their retirement cancelled and their ranks swelled with new recruits (trained to Cadian specification) and have been recalled to Cadia to help turn the tide that is the 13th Black Crusade.

It's the 74th Armoured, 2nd Battlegroup's 1st Squadron that is frequently seconded to 3rd Company, and they are commanded by the famed tank ace Lieutenant Erwin. They are often found roving ahead of the main battlegroup, covering record-breaking distances every day; with convenient "communication malfunctions" that mean they 'didn't receive orders' and instead engage in battles against hostile targets or are found defending key points in the battlelines, though it can make re-supply problematic on occasion.

I do have a target list I am working towards, but I am just ironing out some niggles with it (and deciding whether I want to get a Valkyrie or a Devildog more).

So, some models. I'm a slow painter but love converting (so I'm going to need some encouragement to actually get on with it), but here are some models that will feature in the final army:

Colourscheme - I'm aiming for a "temperate highland" style look, the image I had in mind was deciduous woodland in mountainous terrain.

Is it OK for the tabletop?

HQ - this is my WIP of Colonel Straken. I really don't like the model, but love the artwork, so naturally I could only try to make a model as close to the Artwork as I could. What do you think?

I've got some metal rod to re-do the gun barrel so it's not so comically large. Also need to finish off the bionic arm.

Troops - here's a selection of Sergeants to lead my Infantry Squads. I initially didn't like the fact you can't take Lasguns, but I have been able to make some characterful conversions.

I still need another Sergeant, and I've some lovely Hasslefree Miniatures females to add in. Ok, they're small compared to the GW mini's, but I think I can fluff-them-in as deep-hive dwellers.

Fast Attack Here is one of what will eventually be a pair of "Sentinels". Having fun making this one, is very WIP.

It still needs the wheels cut-into the bonnet so they aren't sticking out (now done) and the back compartment needs building around the gunner, and obviously a driver and a front-gunner (front-gunner will have an Autogun for no in-game effect). They're supposed to be based on "pinky" landrovers, like this one:

Well, I think that's all for now - what do you think?

I can't believe your asking whether that models table top quality! It's excellent in a nice interesting scheme. I also really like your 4X4 Sentinels having somewhat of a soft spot for Technicals myself, (I'm trying to get Wargames Factory to make some)

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.

I like the heads. I have really started to dislike troops where you can see their faces.

Birmingham, The UK one!

The Land Rovers are called pink panthers and i think that the vehicle looks more like a warthog of Halo to me personally is it the front of a landspeeder with a platform glued to the back coz it awesome

Well, hopefully when I get the wheels sorted (finished the cutting, I just need another 4 wheels) and squared-off the front it'll look more Rover-ish.

And the back will be longer than the Halo vehicles, hopefully making it look more Rover-ish again.

Very nice conversions. I like the highlighted black and I particularly love the dude swinging his lasgun. I must now get the Cadian conversion packs from forgeworld.

Do you have any tips for highlighting that precisely for black? Mine always appears uneven and no where near as sharp as that.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

All I did was used slightly-thinned codex grey and wiped the tip of the brush (with paint on it) on a piece of tissue to remove the "blob" of paint that builds up, leaving a nice point on the brush. I then turned the model so that I could draw the "flat" of the brush smoothly along the sharp edges, only applying a little pressure. This way you use the actual modelled ridges to catch the detail and aren't relying on shaky hands (I can't paint in a straight line for the life of me).

@Typeline: Everyone says that, so he may become Sergeant "Abe" Lincolnson. Being a Brit I had no idea about the similarities of the pose/head when I built it

I've done a little work to the wheel area.

On the final model the wheels will sit a little further out that this, so that the front and back line up (instead of having the back out wider than the front). I'm going to add a plasticard backing, onto which will go some suspension, and then an axle will go underneath the vehicle (made out of tubing if I can find any) so the wheels will be turnable.

I'll also knock-up some wheel arches out of plasticard (they'll make a "gunwhale" that'll run down the side of the vehicle between them) and square-off the bonnet (conveniently shielding the front of the wheels from view/fire) and hopefully make it look less warthog-ish.

Well, that's the plan - I can't even cut plasticard straight so how it'll end up is anybody's guess.

I'm quite happy the cutting went relatively hitch-free - apart from having to do fine-detail work with the hacksaw that is...

Is this ok for the tabletop ? LOL these are awesome ! The colour scheme rocks and is very well executed. I think the camo came out very well indeed.

Sergeant are all great characters, not sure about the 'improvised' looking cc weapons but that's just personal taste, and I cant wait to see that 'landy' finished.
