Bear with me as I've been playing WHFB for the last few years and only have a couple of games of 40k in that time.


For kill points.

If I buy a unit and a dedicated transport, that is 2 kill points, 1 for the unit and 1 for the transport.

So an IG platoon with Command group & chimera and 3 infantry squads with 3 chimeras = 8 kill points.

And that means there is no point in taking mechanised infantry IG?

No, there is loads of point, as in 2/3 of missions they suddenly become a lot more effective, as they are more mobile.

Yes in KP missions you are kind of disadvantaged, but that balances out the advantage you have in 2/3 of other games.

Waaagh_Gonads are you trying to build a Mech-list? if so you want to be fielding veterans.

But if for some reason you really must have IG platoon why not mount them in vendetta/valkrie?

I'm looking to do a krieg army, so number of models will be an issue.

My concern with the valkarie is that for a minimum sized platoon, I'll need a vehicle squadron, and a vehicle squadron = dead meat if shot at.

I have been considering veterans as well (with chimera) and a squad of storm troopers in a valkarie (Krieg grenadiers) as support.

I want it to be a 'Look at moi' modelling and painting army, not a cheese fest win at all costs gaming army. But I would like to have some chance of winning.

well there is one option in KP games blob up your infantry squads. 5kps becomes 1kp.

Infantry Platoon
PCS 30 + war gear + chimera (so orders can be given)
3xIS + war gear + commissar

Valkyrie x3 + multiple rocket pods (390pts) (optional heavy bolters) (= 6 large blasts at str 4 ap6 and 9 str6 ap6 shots ( if you've taken the heavy bolters, 18 str 5 ap 4 shots when you don't move) since this thing comes with scout that's allot of damage on the first turn.

ignoring the cheese for a moment. In KP games your IS bulk together now you have a squad with 3 heavy weapons (if it was me missiles and grenade launchers) and 3 commissars so it shouldn't run away. And you will outflank with the Valkyrie (basically come on and shoot the hell out of any anti-tank then sit still (only if you have the heavy bolters) and blast any one that looks at them funny.

I've done this a few times. My friend who plays a SM army ended up with more KPs hehehe =)
