Plasma cannons can overheat with a roll of 1 by D6.
If so, infantry cannot shoot the cannon.
But is the same true for vehicle-mounted plasma cannons?

I have the Rulebooks (3rd, 4th and 5th) and 90% of the codex's, including several from 2nd edition and Rouge trader. I just assumed that the OP was intelligent enough to use an index and didn't wish to insult him by providing a Page number, as that would suggest that he couldn't use an index.

But if you insist:
Page 31, Paragraph 6, under the title "GETS HOT!", Sentence 4, last Sentence before the example of a "Gets Hot!" weapon.

What about skimmers with plasma cannons like the Dark Angel's Master of the Ravenwing? Are they exempted from gets hot even if they aren't technically a vehicle?

Since when were Skimmers not vehicles???

Does it have an Armour Value? Then it's a Vehicle.

I think he means the Master of Ravenwing jet bike option that comes with a bike that is kited out with a plasma cannon and a twin-linked stormbolter.

RAW would say he is subject to overheating. Because a bike is not a vehicle. But some groups play it that the weapon does not overheat because it is vehicle mounted and not a weapon carried by the rider. However, this is not supported by the rules that I am aware of. But I am ok with it either way.

I do believe that the MoR's plasma cannon does over heat, he has no AV only his toughness and save. So I think he would take a wound from that weapon over heating, granted he failed his save.

EDIT: The Marine has a fething Plasma Cannon between his legs, now I'm not sure if SM have the standard bits of a male, something most seem to thing they dont, but I think that a plasma weapon over heating between your legs could hurt a lot.

MotR's plasma cannon CAN overheat because he is not a vehicle.

He is a unit type: Jetbike, not "skimmer". He has an armour save (not an armour value). Pretty clear. Roll a 1, and he fails a save, instant hot-shot.

Brings new definition to the term "crotch rocket" though.

As a Spess Puppy Player I only use the DA Codex for Loo Roll, and had used up that page already. I thought he was a skimmer (as started by the person I was replying to) not a Jetbike.

If he is a Jetbike, then yes, he Overheats. Nothing Exempts Jetbikes or Bikes from suffering "Gets Hot!" Results

That's what I remember. I remember a flash of 14's when I has that curry, I was sure of it. On the Jetbike he overheats, on the Land Speeder he does not.

In the 4th ed, plasma cannons were rarely available as tank weapons; the Chaos Dread can have one.
But the new blast shooting rules changed the way to use plasma cannons. The shot fails by rolling 1 from D6.
But this does not transfers from models with armor save to tanks and walkers. This makes tank-mounted plasma cannons even more scary as they always hit!

Yes they were not on tanks often, but now with Codex: PlasmaRussAway! out, they are used everywhere :(

No they hit 1/3 just like everything else. They can scatter true, and you are more likely to deviate than hit IIRC

With the new rules, when will you EVER fire the storm Bolter lol. Only time i can think is if you are 6" away for an assault and have been rolling really bad all night

Even if you want ed to assault you still could, as all bikes and Jet bikes are now relentless. so at which pint you would need simply for it to not scatter back at you. so Fire that plasma and WAAAGH! {read as} "CHARGE! away."

I think so because it doesn't specify it in the new rulebook.. might wanna check it out under the Gets Hot! section tho
