How do most folks rule on the dispelling of remains in play? Perhaps a hold-over from 6th edition, I was thinking you just had to roll equal to over the casting value of the spell. However as Curse of Years was being laid down, my opponent noted that I would have to roll one OVER the casting value if I waited to dispel it in my turn (or later). The rulebook does state that you must "only beat the casting value of the spell in question" and does not have to beat the original roll. The word grabbed on to here is "beat". As it is written "equal or beat".

Thoughts?

In order to dispell a spell, you only have to equal the value.

same for dispell RIP: roll equal to or over the base casting value.

I don't have the book handy, but I think you have to beat it ie. it's a 7 so you need an 8.

2012- stopped caring
Nova Open 2011- Orks 8th Seed---(I see a trend)
Adepticon 2011- Mike H. Orks 8th Seed (This was the WTF list of the Final 16)
Adepticon 2011- Combat Patrol Best General

Well, right- I've quoted the rulebook above. I'm just kind of curious, since it seems like something easy to overlook. When dispelling an active cast- equal or better is good enough. When dispelling RiP, equal no longer cuts it.

A little odd.

Yea, its a strange change that you now have to beat the RIP spell to get rid of it.
Also, no scrolls if i recall.
