Once upon a time, a team of four Dakkaites came together and said, "We should form a team and compete in the AdeptiCon Team Tournament". So all four players brought their armies to the Windy City and played. And a good time was had by all.

The next year, the same four players decided to all start a new army, and each painted and assembled their force. And a good time was had by all.

The year after that, the Elusive Yakface spake, "Bretheren, while our Battle Scores have been without peer, our painting and theme scores doth hinder us from achieving that most Elusive of honors." And so, which much cross-shipping, new models were bought, and traveled to and fro across the country. And although the process was complicated and at times arcane, all was completed on time. And afterwards, the Elusive Yakface claimed as his prize the whole 4000 points of Tau that the team had created.

This year, the team decided to play Chaos Daemons. Centurian99 spake, "I have begun a Commission Painting Service, and will gladly paint more figures to match my existing army. But my funds are low, and I cannot afford to part with the coin to get more models." Then spake Janthkin, "Fear not! For I also have felt the urge to call upon the Daemons of Chaos, and I shall provide the coin for this most worthy endeavor, and afterwards, we both shall have Chaos Daemons!"

And all was good.

Then Janthkin spake to Centurian99, "Lo, though I am glad to have the models after AdeptiCon, I fear that they will not be enough, and that extra models shall be required." And Centurian99 replied, "Verily, shall thou needest more models to field a full force. Happilly shall I procure and paint extra models so that your Chaos Daemons may be fielded at higher points battles, even unto Apocalypse. After all, mine painting service shall gladly undertake this endeavor.

And all was good. Again.

But then Janthkin spake once more. "Woe is me! For my heart is split between love of the round base and love of the square base. It tears my heart in twain to have to choose between the far future and the fantastic past! What shall I do?"

And Centurian99's heart went out to his brother, and said, "Fear not. For mine skills shall make thy heart glad."

And Centurian99 showed Janthkin the products of his labor. "Behold! A Fateweaver to lead thine force in 40K!"

"And one to lead thine force amongst the Square-Basers!"

"But look," spake 40K. "Tis really a single model, made with interchangable bases."

"And so that Fateweaver be not alone, a Bloodthirster and Bloodcrushers shall join him in fighting both with round bases and with square ones!"

"And behold, through the magic of Rare Earth, shall thou pickest up thine models without having the bases fall off!"

And all was well.

Thus endeth the proberb.

For the just the bases?

About an hour and a half for the first one (since I had to figure out how to do it). About twice that for the rest.

Not counting time for glue to dry, of course.

love it, but any ideas on how this would work out for basic troops?
i see you have used the small square bases as they fit in both the FB and 40k counterparts.

Janthkin's planning on using these, from Gale Force 9:

Why do they have square bases? Does GW make some sort of game that requires square bases? Why not just base them all with the bases they come with? Those square things I thought were shields.

Janthkin tells me that there's a game called "Warhammer Phantuh Sea" Not sure what square bases have to do with water, but the customer is always right!

I might try this. One army for 2 games. Magnetic bases will ensure that Chaos can fight in 2 worlds but use only one army budget. Genius.

I would be more than happy to do more armies like this for any potential clients. The additional costs are really minimal compared to the cost/time of doing the whole army.
