what do you do while you are painting models? besides painting of course

i blast metal at an incredibly loud volume. it helps me concentrate believe it or not

I listen to podcasts or music on my headphones, or if there's a Warriors (Basketball) or Giants (Baseball) game, I'll try to have that on TV and just listen to it in the background.

I've been considering doing this especially with my backlog of DVDs... Grey's Anatomy isn't going to watch itself after all.

My cable system has a bunch of music choice channels, and so I always put on the metal channel. They play a combination of new and classic tracks. They don't play videos, but they do show the artist, song title, album title and the year it was released.

Mostly music or when she's bothered, my girl grabs a chair and joins in, you'd be surprised how easy it is to talk while trying to paint fiddly details.

I usually listen to music I need some kind of background noise, I cant work in silence.

Usually a sporting event or quality television show on the television (it's been Firefly lately). Sometimes I'll throw an audio book on, or just deal with whatever my wife is watching.

Usually put on some mindless movie/show in the background. From Dusk Til Dawn FTW!

My preference goes to shows like 48 Hours Hard Evidence, or something on the History channel. If neither is on I generally listen to music or talk radio. When I used to paint with a friend of mine we would listen to The Church, the Cure, or whatever 80's alt rock he had.

I don't mind talking with the wife or a friend while I'm painting, but I get distracted easily.

I listen to a audio book that teaches me to speak french. my girl friend laughs at me when she sees me speak french while i paint by myself.

I put several Cd's on the "automated Cd player",(always a lovely selection of the most abbrasive punk/hardcore I have),turn the volume to 11 and paint my heart out.

I listen to chilled out music, like the Juno Soundtrack and Regina Spektor, some of Aphex Twin's less demonic-sounding tracks, some classical stuff like Beethoven and any electronic-lounge music.

Or my girlfriend sits next to me and plays Dungeon Keeper 2. It's remarkable how we can comment on each other's activities and not kill each other!

I just paint. I only listen to music when I draw or paint paintings as I like to "move to the music." It works great on a large canvas or sheet of paper, but it tends to fall apart when working on an extremely small scale. Television is just too distracting. So, silence for me.
