Source: More Targets Found on Arkansas Shooting Suspect's Computer
A senior U.S. official tells FOX News that more targets were found on the computer of a man charged in the fatal shooting at a military recruiting center in Arkansas — suggesting the accused gunman may have been part of a larger plot to attack military targets and may not have been acting alone.

It wasn't immediately clear how extensive the potential plot might have been or what evidence authorities have suggesting more suspects were involved.

The source's information contradicted a local police official's denial earlier Tuesday that the shooting was part of a larger conspiracy.

Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad, 23, pleaded not guilty to capital murder Tuesday and was ordered held without bond.

One soldier died and another was wounded Monday in what police say was a targeted attack on U.S. forces by a convert to Islam accused of having "political and religious motives."

Muhammad, who previously was known as Carlos Bledsoe, already had been under investigation by the FBI at the time of the shootings.

Muhammad was charged in Monday's death of Pvt. William Long, 23, outside the Army-Navy Career Center, which handles recruiting, in Little Rock.

A prosecutor said Muhammad admitted shooting Long and another soldier "because of what they had done to Muslims in the past."

Long and Pvt. Quinton Ezeagwula, 18, had recently completed basic training and had never seen combat. Ezeagwula was in stable condition at a hospital.

An FBI joint terrorism task force based in the southern U.S. reportedly had been tracking Muhammad after he traveled to Yemen and was arrested and jailed there for using a Somali passport, an official told The Associated Press. The probe had been in its early stages and based on Muhammad's trip to Yemen, ABC News reported.

While there, Muhammad, who was born and raised in Tennessee, studied jihad with an Islamic scholar, according to Jihadwatch.org. He moved to Little Rock in April.

After the shooting, investigators searched his apartment and found additional weapons, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the AP.

An FBI spokesman in Little Rock did not immediately return a call for comment.

At Tuesday's court hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Scott Duncan said Muhammad told investigators that "he would have killed more soldiers had they been in the parking lot."

Long and Ezeagwula were targeted as they stood outside the recruiting center smoking cigarettes.

Muhammad, wearing a dark blue jail uniform with brown plastic sandals, sat with his hands in his lap before Little Rock District Judge Alice Lightle. He did not say anything during the brief hearing.

Investigators described the killing as one motivated by politics and religion: A Muslim convert upset with the U.S. military drove to a recruiting center and opened fire.

Muhammad was not part of any organized terrorist group, nor was his attack part of a larger conspiracy, according to Little Rock Police Chief Stuart Thomas.

Interviews with police show that the suspect "probably had political and religious motives for the attack," Thomas said. "We believe that it's associated with his disagreement over the military operations."

Muhammad told authorities that he approached the recruiting center in Little Rock by car on Monday and started shooting at two soldiers in uniform, according to a police report.

"He saw them standing there and drove up and shot them," Lt. Terry Hastings told the AP. "That's what he said."

The two victims had completed basic training within the past two weeks and were not regular recruiters, said Lt. Col. Thomas F. Artis of the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion, which oversees the Little Rock office.

Witnesses told police that a man inside a black vehicle pulled up outside the recruiting center and opened fire about 10:30 a.m. Long fell onto the sidewalk outside the center, while Ezeagwula was able to crawl toward its door.

Muhammad was arrested along an interstate highway moments after the shootings, authorities said.

Police said an assault rifle and other weapons were found in Muhammad's car when he was arrested.

The accused shooter's father, Melvin Bledsoe, hung up on a reporter who called about his son's arrest Monday night.

I'm sorry for the families of the soldiers. These guys were so young and it's unfortunate that this story will go largely unnoticed in comparison to the murder of Dr. Tiller.

Okay okay okay, why is he called a terrorist and not a loony with a gun like with all the other cases? Is it just because he happens to be a muslim? Yes the guy is a witch but branding him a terrorist is extreme and fear inducing.

The idea that he was part of a larger organisation is very fanciful speculation on the part of FOX. It's based on nothing but the maps of other locations, with nothing to indicate that they weren't targets he considered and possibly would attack himself later. When a bank robbers computer is searched and maps of many banks are found, police will assume they are plans that were investigated and rejected in favour of the job undertaken, or possibly that they were plans for future jobs. The police don't declare there must be a network of bank robbers all ready to strike their own locations. FOX conclusion is ridiculous, and relies on fooling the reader that skims the headline and doesn't read the article.

There are two dead men, and this must be awful for their families. Good on you, FOX, for trying this tragedy into something so much more exciting.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. U.S. Code Title 22, Ch.38, Para. 2656f(d) Defines terrorism as:

"premeditated, politically motivated violence perpetrated against noncombatant targets by subnational groups or clandestine agents;"

Surely you're not going to try to argue that a soldier is a non-combatant?

Wierd how that description also matches USA foreign policy in a lot of cases in the last few years.

...dare I ask where he got his gun from..?

Whilst I agree that he was a terrorist, I see there is no evidence yet to actually link him to any plot as such. From what you've linked and "said" he acted alone at the time and it's not exactly much of a plan really is it ? Drive up and fire. Must have taken hours to come up with that one.

So.... Any soldier who isn't fighting isn't a soldier? Convenient.

I'm not condoning this whackjob's actions, I'm condemning the fact that any crime can now be considered a terrorist attack. All it would take is one person to describe themselves as "terrorized" by the ordeal, and what should be a matter of city, and or state justice suddenly becomes the purview of the federal government.

You're getting my point confused with the argument about the definition of terrorism.

My point was just that FOX' logic (found other locations on computer therefore part of a secret terrorist network) was woeful. So woeful that I doubt FOX expected anyone to really believe it - they just hoped people would read the headline and move on.

In terms of the other discussion going on here, 'should he be called a terrorist or not'? Yeah, I think he should be called a terrorist. He killed random people based on political objectives, that fits enough of a definition for me.

Do I believe the non bold quote from someone involved? Or do I believe the bold quote stuck in by a fox editor to make the article more "exciting" for their predominantly drunk and illiterate audience that can't be bothered to get to the non bolded quote? Did the "US officials" (I'm a US citizen, I guess I'm a US official too) who is nameless say both that he had more on his computer AND that it implies conspiracy? Or is that just the idiotic fearmongering fox news is famous for?

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT DO TO BELIEVE HERE! Fox news is a highschool newspaper on steroids, with about the same journalistic integrity as the chinese government.

Not so much of a connection than any other crime commited by people everyday. Military recruitment areas have been targeted since lord knows when. The fact that the target was military personnal and not a day care/shopping mall should be telling, I think. Focused anger attack rather than general meyham.

On a lighter note.
