my heavy weapons squad was assualte while they were in a bunker. how does that work. i didnt think that was even allowed since they were in a sealed bunker?
1. do they get a cover save?
2. is the assault even allowed since they cant get into base contact?
3. does an armor value come into play? AV 14 for bunkers?

I would say either:
1.) The assault is not allowed, as you say, it's a sealed bunker.
or
2.) The assault is allowed but your guys get a cover save and strike first as if defending a barricade.

They are my thoughts anyway...

For a bunker on p.79 BRB "Units may shoot at or assault an occupied building just as if it was a vehicle. Units inside a building may not be attacked directly, but will be affected in the same manner as units inside a transport vehicle should the building be damaged, and so may suffer damage and/or be forced to 'disembark'.

A bunker is listed as AV 14.

The bunker provides so much protection that it may swing a battle heavily in favor of the controlling side in an otherwise even matchup. It would be wise to consider a "point cost" for such an asset.

A bunker should have specific firing points and access points cleared up before the game as those work the same as in a transport.

A bunker will also have a maximum transport capacity that you should also clear up beforehand.

So to answer:

1)They cannot be assaulted directly. The enemy unit would first have to destroy the bunker.
2)They can assault the bunker and force you out, otherwise its like a transport.
3)Yes, AV 14 for bunkers.

If the opposing player attempts to enter a bunker but it is occupied, is it no longer acting as a transport?

here is where I intend to go:
1) you obviously cannot embark an opposing player's transport
2) if the bunker is at max capacity is there no rm for the opposing player to enter and attack?

are the rules for assaulting through windows etc. covered in the other entries for buildings? I am pretty sure it is permitted and as stated above treated as assaulting through cover (assaulting at I1).

I have a love /hate relationship with anything green.

If you are in a Building, the enemy may not also enter. They can however assault the Bunker to try and blow it up.

Hey Gwar!, if I agree with you again could you please please please please please put me in your signature? I feel so sad at being left out!

Btw, at the OP, are you doing Planetstrike or something, because Planetstrike might give different rules for bunkers (like maybe letting the Attacker use flamers to burn out the Defender's troops etc.)?

Your in a battlefield with the Rhino your Leman could move like. Whats in your hand, back at me, I have it, it's the fire control for the Twin-linked Assault Cannons aimed at you. Look again, it's a Deep-Striked Land-Raider. Anything is possible when your Tanks move like Blood Angels, and not like Guardsmen. I'm on a Baneblade.

this is already a rule. Don't remember what page of the BRB it's in but it's in the buildings section. If a template weapon attacks a firing point, the occupying unit takes D6 hits from the weapon.

In the darkness of the far future, bunkers are still suplied with locks for the doors. or maybe just a chair to put under the door handle.

Actually it is not a rule. The rules for Buildings state:
Units inside a building may not be attacked directly, but will be affected in the same manner as units inside a transport vehicle should the building be damaged , and so may suffer damage and/or be forced to 'disembark'.

Correction, it is a Rule, found on page 80, the most emo of all pages!

a real simple way to remember it is that intact buildings/bunkers are vehicles that cannot move and have specific fire points /acess points. The main difference is that when a bunker is penetrated it counts a a ruin and the models inside must disembark as if they were in a destroyed vehicle. Its pretty simple, you cant be assaulted. However if someone uses a template weapon on a bunker it auto hits d6 models per template. it reminds me of a time when I got 10 burna boys in a looted wagon next to an occupied bunker, that was a nice 10d6 auto hits

iv talked this out and technically i was wrong. i just had units in a bunker get a 3+ cover save so i could still technically be assaulted. my bad.

The land of cotton.

Ideally you would discuss the terrain pieces beforehand and decide on effects.

My personal take on bunkers is if they are closed topped then they are treated as buildings, and if open topped then treated as cover saves only and assaults possible.

Sure, but the book actually says otherwise.

What, you mean besides the first paragraph under Defining Buildings and Ruins on page 77, which says that you should discuss what to do with the buildings and notes that you can make their rules as complex as you'd like? Or the parts on page 13 where it discusses the "guidelines" for classifying terrain and it says "it is important that you and your opponent agree what class of terrain each feature falls into before starting your game"?

If a person buys a 'bunker' from the store and use it on the tabletop, it could be anything from difficult terrain to a page 78 building entirely dependent on how the two parties involved decide to classify it.

What if we classify it as a super awesome bomb storage that allows 134 R unlimited S10 AP1 Ordance, large blasts, No Scatter to whoever is inside it? (that many oper model btw)

Bunkers that are not fully enclosed can be treated like a ruin that gives a 3+ cover save.

A proper bunker with doors (and no other way in or out) and firing points is like a transport vehicle.

If the model leaves some question as to which it might be then clarify it at the start of the battle.

If you and your opponent decide to do that, there's only one reasonable response:

"So, you've seen my bomb storage bunkers which I put together because hiding in bunkers is for cowards. Next up, I'd like to show everyone my acid table. The entire table is dangerous terrain because lava tables just aren't hard core enough. " - Hypothetical Gamer
