i was watching pirates of the carribean the other night with my girlfriend
and thought hey wouldnt it be cool to do an ork army in the style of pirates and thats what they are really any way!

so looking through my codex i read each main clans little story on them,
badmoons, no pirates arent super rich and i cant really see them, being pirates, IMO
snakebites are too old fashion
deathskulls are more into looting and that so they could work
evil sunz just like going fast, no good
goffs love fighting and wont run away

BUT BLOOD AXES! regarded as untrustworthy gits, trade openly with the imperium, parley with the enemy,
and they consider retreating, and it says they see getting shot before attacking the enemy as a big waste
and the warbosses seem to be alot smarter

sounds piratey to me, but id like to hear everyone elses opinions

as well as maybe a little advice on how id model such orks
i was thinking the warboss would have a really big hat, and the nobz would have hats as well but not as big as the boss,

cuz 'es da boss an' e's got da biggest hat!

thanks everyone!

Seems fairly fluffy, my only problem is that such a warband would have no reason to _look_ like traditonal pirates, unless they've been trading with an Imperial fancy dress shop

Admittedly, no clan does have any fluff reason for looking like pirates, even the standard GW ork pirates (called Freebooters, supposedly rejects and misfits from oher clans) - it makes perfect sense that they'd have wildly erratic clothes and weapons, but the traditional pirate look is more cute than logical.

Still, makes as much sense as any other army theme. Personally I'd go for Deff Skull Lootas, so that you can loot bits off _every_ other race, not just the Imperium.

Ork Freebooters (aka pirates) are Orks that have no Klan affiliation, either because they left or were kicked out. Badrukk was a Bad Moon, and they considered him too over the top, even for them, and was kicked out.

Freebooters work for money (teef or loot) and every Warboss knows that.

There's nothing wrong with having a bunch of Blood Axes 'gone pirate', but Freebooters can come from all Klans.

For conversion bitz, Warstore has some good Blood Axe heads: http://www.thewarstore.com/MASConversionBits.html

Maxmini has some very nice Ork pirate heads. http://www.maxmini.eu/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=62&zenid=b9c397255eefd85c2995fd71f9c2cf12

We are having some discussion about this very idea going on in my thread over in the P&M blog forum:

http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242089.page

I have some links to the parts i'm using.

I'll have a picture of my first test pirate up soon.

Piratey Orks always make me smile. I love the idea of it all and honestly it just seems "noice and Orky ta meh" So go for it. Obviously this plan of your will end up costing more then a regular Ork army. But who cares its going to be friggin awesome! You could even make the vehicles look like floating pirate ships. The trukks and looted wagons could be like floating dingies with nasty motors and exhaust pipes sticking out everywhere.
DO THIS! lol

About to eat your Avatar...

I talked to a guy who was doing a army for his son in this same "Pirate" style. His main focus was the vehicles. Painting your models with individual outfits can either be extremely time consuming, or a great time saver; it depends on how you prefer to paint and model. Has anyone tried using "Pirate-colored" rags for clothes? In this case I think dry-brushing and a bit of well placed wash could make some really convincing clothing. I don't mean doll clothes, more like those really nice action figures that oddly have the ability to go commando. Never understood that one quite honestly, Male dolls are quite disturbing....

Anyway here is a link to that one topic=

@ Darkwulf: thanks i read through that and i like the idea of having nobs as regular boyz
not sure if ill use the idea or anything but thanks for the link definatly got my orky mind going!

@Clang:
Personally I'd go for Deff Skull Lootas, so that you can loot bits off _every_ other race, not just the Imperium.

i like the idea of that and i cant believe i didnt think of it

@ dietrich: thanks for giving me a little more info on freebooters that will probably come into my main idea somewhere, such as having differnt squads as different clans or something to make up the whole army, i kinda like the idea of that also i like the look of those general heads, maybe use those for the nobz, cause im dead set on skulpting the warbosses hat and making it ridiculously huge, but to the point where it overshadows the rest of the model

@Lagduf: had a look through the discussion and saw your model, hit me as a great start and i like the old school rifle, maybe we should have some of our own discussions since we both seem to be doing the same kinda thing!

@KingCracker: i love pirates and i love orks so i love pirate orks too! well the price isnt exactly a problem its actually getting my butt in gear and doing it and finishing it which is mostly what this discussion is about, i want to finish an army that i can be proud of because i put my time and hard work and even blood into it

You could even make the vehicles look like floating pirate ships. The trukks and looted wagons could be like floating dingies with nasty motors and exhaust pipes sticking out everywhere.

and i am using this idea its awesome!!! how ill do it i have no fraggin clue but its going to happen!!!! thanks for this amazing idea!!!

@WRexasaur: thanks for the link lots of neat ideas that will be running around in my mind now

when its gona get started im not too sure but it will happen, by the poweres invested in me by Gork and Mork IT WILL HAPPEN!!!
