Quick question for all you Tourney Players out there. I haven't really ever gotten out to tournaments much, but I do like to make my armies tourney legal should I ever feel the urge to. One question I kinda had. If in the requirements it says all models have to be painted and based (obviously painted - self explanatory) what all is exactly required. My apologies for what's probably a stupid question, but for basing, what needs to be done exactly? Bases painted? Just -have- bases (which I thought was kind of a no-brainer..) or like full out flocked with stuff bases?

At a minimum, have them painted.

Adding the flock is pretty minimal effort though. Adding some sand to the base before painting and then drybrushing it is even better.

A decent base makes a decent-paint job look a lot better. A lousy base makes a great paint job look bad.

Question: What do I have to do for Tournament ABC regarding XYZ.
Answer: Whatever they tell you.

Honestly, we cannot answer for you. You have to ask the Tournament Organiser (TO). he may allow Unpainted models, he may allow variant IA lists. he may decide to Ban Tau, or any model with Blue on it. He might even decide to ban painted models if he was downright insane.

You have to ask your TO, no-one else can answer.

A minimum, paint the base a solid color. Some people don't like the concept of flocking at all and stick to this.

There are tutorials that are of help.
A base can be based extremely quickly. For quick game play level:
*City basing gravel, glue, what 30 minutes for 75 guys including prep time. Allow to dry.
*Then a black inkwash, add 30 minutes including stoping during the middle to watch some TV. You're done.

Very true frazzled, nice quick and Grimdark. A Perfect 40k Combo.

Of course my problem is more the actual painting of the model (as I cannot actually paint well). it just seems to take me ages to get around to spray painting anything.

Thanks guys.

I understand each tourney's gonna be different but most people I would think would follow a general "code of conduct" sort of style. That gives me a bit better of an idea.

For the most part LGS & GW tourneys follow the minimum standards set for 'GT Tournaments'.

Find the rules for minimum compliance to the GT Tourneys that GW hosts and you should not have any problems with any other tournaments you'd like to play in...

Here is a link to the GW 2008 GT rules for modeling/painting, etc... http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=300005&pIndex=2&aId=3400027&start=3

Baring of course the unpredictable insanity of the TO as already described above!
