Auto append is useful to get rid of the wasteful cascade of one liner posts. Multiple quick posts should still be appended, but for those of us who are used to typing more than few words at a time it is often a real drag.

This can be a problem as it makes a potentially very long post, out of two or more in depth replies, which can be unpopular. The person you are answering may have comments tucked into the bottom of a reply to someone else, and people tend to ignore those. It also removes any logical break up between comments on one topic thread.

I propose that the auto append doesnt kick in if two adjacent posts are over a set length, or at least give the option for the poster to start a new post rather than continue an old one so they can add something different to what they just said.

Often I feel I need to wait for a reply, any reply, to a thread so I can continue to post but to someone else. Sometimes multiple comments on one thread dont belong in the same box. Allow us to break up our posts and post twice.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.

Link to some examples please so I can fine tune it. At the moment it will disable auto append for anything over 10,000 characters, but this can be tweaked.

I wrote the request specifically after this thread:http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/242669.page; but had been irked by the problem before. I had deliberately waited for any replies on this thread in order to include my promised battle report post seperate to rules query posts on the same thread.
