Okay peeps, I'm heading off to a 1000 point tournament in July called Tactica. I thought I'd have my first proper competitive showing of my Praetorian Armoured there, with their steam chimeras and zeppelins, and here's the army list I came up with.

Updated
HQ

Company Command Squad w/4 Meltaguns-90 pnts
Chimera w/2 Hvy Flamers-55 pnts

Troops

Veteran Squad w/3 Plasma Guns, Autocannon-125 pnts
Chimera w/Heavy Bolter, Multilaser-55 pnts

Veteran Squad w/3 Plasma Guns, Autocannon-125 pnts
Chimera w/Heavy Bolter, Multilaser-55 pnts

Veteran Squad w/3 Meltaguns, mortar-105 pnts

Fast Attack

Valkyrie Assault Carrier w/Two Multiple Rocket Pods-130 pnts

Vendetta Gunship-130 pnts

Vendetta Gunship-130 points

I know this is a fairly standard mech list, so it's not something I would usually run, but considering it's a competitive event, and it's still a themed force( It was actually gonna be a mechanized division before I even saw the new Guard codex)I think I can be forgiven. Good advice is appreciated.

I wouldn't mess with the dual HF Chimeras... you want the multilaser shots. I run my Chimeras with Multilaser/Heavy Flamer and find it to be great since I get shots at range, then when things get close they get the HF templates.

If your units of vets are going to be in the Valk/Detta then I would drop the Missile Launchers from them. They won't be able to shoot them the turn they jump out of the Valk/Detta and once they're on the ground they're probably going to be in a threatening position, so will be taking fire (and 10 guardsmen don't hold up well to that).

I don't think extra armor on the Chimeras is necessary, and heavy bolters on the Valk/Detta are not ideal. The Detta needs to move slow in the first place to shoot its lascannons so the HBs won't hinder anything, but they aren't good weapons against the kinds of targets the Vendetta should be shooting at (tanks, heavy infantry). the Valkyrie can move 12" and shoot all of its weapons. If you give it heavy bolters, it won't be able to move 12" and shoot them, so it seems like more or less a waste. I don't think you'll really find the extra few shots from them coming in handy very often personally.

I'd also maybe consider dropping the Chimera from the CCS (and putting them in one of the V craft) and one of the vet squads for a Leman Russ of some sort.

O H I am in the Webway...

I would run the chims ML/HF and run the vets as your flame boys. 3 flamers and a HF. You can keep one as plasma. It looks ok though.

Pretty solid except that i'd trade the two IS's Chimeras to the Vets and give them Meltas instead of PGs. Use your ISs as a firebase while the rest of your army advances

Many started armies including: / , , ....and Bretonnia

So you think I should run approximately 14 meltaguns? Doesn't that seem a bit overkill for tanks in the short range firepower department?

Not only tanks but they're extremely effective against MEQs. They'll also instant kill so they're good against MCs, Termies etc

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Not that they'll instant kill MCs but they'll probably wound on a 2+

Updated with new changes.

The Vets with meltaguns will drop from the Valkyrie, and along with two vendettas and the command squad, I should be capable of blowing any tank based force. The two plasma gun vet squads and the valkyrie are the main anti-infantry fire support. I know that the mortar is unnecessary, but I had 5 points to burn. If I could have trimmed another 5, I would have upgraded a meltagun to a heavy flamer though. Any suggestions on a good place to trim points?

O H I am in the Webway...

Don't run Vet squads with assault weapons then a Heavy Weapon. A mortar and meltaguns? That is a messed up combination. Plasma / Autocannon is less so but still. I would run one of these squads then the 2nd Plasma squad i'd run as Grenade Launcher / Autocannon if anything. Drop the Mortar for the melta vet squad. I'd exchange 1 vendetta for a Valk so your CCS and 3rd vet squad are in the birds.
