Hey there everyone!
Hailing from Canada, I've decided to pop online and start a few painting blogs, talk about warhammer stuff and simply indulge in the warhammer community.
I found this site through a couple google searches on painting ork skin and the likes and really liked what I've seen on this site, lots of material to use as inspiration for my own paintjobs and what seems to be a very friendly, knowledgeable community.

As for my warhammer experiences? I started out playing Warhammer fantasy with my coworkers, set up a small empire army, but never really got the chance to take off with that. A year later, my schoolmates and I decided to take up Warhammer 40k a bit more seriously (We've had a short history of tabletop gaming, mainly being Dungeons and Dragons), Two of them bought the 'Assault on Black Reach' set, took up the space marines, and let me purchase the ork halves of the army afterward. So far, that leaves me with a sizable starting army... And a whole lot of figures to paint, Haha.

As much as this is an introduction to myself, I'm also curious if there are any experienced painters that I could get in contact with. I just received a bundle of Games workshop paints and am currently picking away at an Ork Trukk (Which is being a real pain to paint, Oof)

Heres a few photo's of my Ork Trukk so far. bad camera, so the quality will be lacking.

And a bit of terrain i poked away at a month ago, Kinda wish I stained the balsa wood to make it look a bit more real. I'll give it a shot later perhaps. I have another terrain board in the process right now that'll defenately outdo this one.

So yeah, thats my introduction! And if you'd like to help a newbie perk up his painting skills a bit more, please give me a poke, I'd love to get in contact.

Welcome

The trukk looks great so far! Also, the terrain board is awesome for a first go! If you add a wash/stain/ink to the edge of those hills, it will look even better! You could even try flocking the whole thing with some elmers glue, grit, and a few layers of paint. For the paint you could use a thin layer of brown and a drybrush (getting almost all the paint off of the brush and then painting) of a lighter brown afterwards

Here's a link to the best and easiest painting tutorial for awesome-looking orks in record time that I have ever seen by a local player (to me ) from Maryland, no less!

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome! And thanks for the tutorial, I'm lookin' to doing a bit more detailed work than that. And I only have a Badab Black wash to use, which doesnt seem to be giving me the effect i'm after.

As for the terrain, Thanks again. I'm really slack on supplies over here, the closest GW shop is a two hour drive and my artstore here 'really' lacks in the good stuff for hobby materials to spice things up. i've found a way to have spray paint eat away at the board just right to give a nice, gritty, grassy look, i'll have to show that off once i get a chance to run out back.

Anyway, I've managed to grab ahold of a better camera;

I have more pictures available at my blog. http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/243260.page

Thankyou

Wow, that picture does look good Do you have any experience painting before starting warhammer?

Also, I wasn't wanting to put down your work or anything with my first post, but I just think those orks look so good for so much less effort than anything I've ever painted, that I've been trying to spread the word

Great stuff and I'll be watching your blog!

Haha, Aw, thanks! I didn't really have much painting experience, but I am an artist, (I did my own icon) so i'm a bit familiar with stuff in that aspect.

Also, don't worry about that, I wasn't offended or anything, It is a good tutorial! I just prefer doing a bit more in depth texture and detail than using a wash. A lot of love and care will be going into my orks when i do get to painting them (After i'm done this damned trukk, haha)

But thanks again, Ill see if I can update tonight!
