Hey guys, I've been lurking on this forum for quite a while now, checking out painting techniques and styles, and finally decided i'd get off my lazy bottom and start posting some of my own work. I do have an artistic background, but still find myself to be a novice painter compaired to a 'lot' of people on this site. I originally made the mistake of painting my miniatures with Testors enamels (Thankfully i've been able to get a batch of GW Citadel paints and strip the Testor'd models from the enamel)
Now, What i have planned here is i'm going to start doing some of the more complicated units of my army first before nailing the lesser units (I'm still pretty shoddy with doing skin and the such, so i've decided to pick away at an ork trukk I purchased. a bit less uniform of a thing to work on I guess)

I should've taken pictures of when I first started painting, but i got too lost into painting i simply forgot (I spent around 5 hours straight on this and i'm still not finished, ugh)

I really wish I had a better camera available to take pictures of this thing, I'm particularly proud of it. The sheer amount of detail on ork trukks are simply astounding, and really time consuming. I kinda wish I had an airbrush to do the base coat.

Anyway, Oppinions and suggestions are welcome!

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

That looks great. Keep it up.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

Hey, Its been a bit. but I do have an update. Been pretty damn busy for the past while.

Pretty happy with it so far, Still got a bit to go, though. The camera seemed to really bring out the red in this for some reason. Prolly due to the flash, cause its kinda dark out, and I took the pic outside.

Doesn't seem many people are really interested :/, I'll keep posted anyway.

So, From a bit of prodding from my uncle and a few members here I finally decided to assemble all of my orks, and begin to prime them to start up a 'factory line' kind of painting assembly. Prior to this i've been painting all my orks meticulously peice by peice, then assembling, each of which took me a good day or so to finish, and well.... This is holding me back from actually playing the game. Heres a few pictures to amuse you guys.

So, here i've got a bunch of my models so far, some primed, some not, half painted, fully painted. etc. all of these are from a pair of 'Assault on Black reach' set, I still have like 15 or so more orks to assemble, some deffkoptas and the like to prime and paint too, i'm just focusing on the little guys for now

So, a bunch of these are now pretty much primed and ready to go, however, I wanted to see what it was like assembling and painting the actual boxed set orks. Honestly, I like assembling them more, having them all posed the same with the snap fit style is just horrid.

So, popped one guy out of the sprue, glued and posed the torso to the legs... And finally to work on painting.

A bit more closer for detail

And finally the end result

After having fun with him, I decided to go back to work on my Assault on black reach orks... And yeah, this is defenately a lot faster than painting them wholly, one by one. A bit funner too!

My workspace:

And finally some of my finished products:

Any feedback is appreciated!

Really liking the red and black checks, the faded camo on the door side of that trukk are a great touch and really bring it to life.

Ahem... drill your gun barrels...

Other than that, very nice indeed.

good luck with painting the checker pattern on all da boyz.
I thought a striped pattern was a great theme for my army colors..... then realized how many times I'd have to do it.

It looks good so far. I agree that all the checkers is a little intense and will be really hard to do, I would have some solid colors in there as well. I am just starting orks as well, and hopefully will get some pics up soon. I have an overall yellow color scheme with some checker pattern and I found that a second highlight color really helps my models as well (I used a dark red). This might be good for your models also. I like where you are going with this and will keep an eye on this blog.

LOL, I knew that would get some attention!
As for it being real? Naw. Its a toy, an airsoft replica i've been working from scratch, Getting the final part in today :9.

And to be on topic :

Yes, i'll be drilling my barrels when the time comes! I just don't own a miniature drill at the moment

And yeah, I really like the Red /black checks too, Makes my army unique! They are kinda hard to do in two ways : Red paint on a black surface is just ugh! Hard to make it look a nice, flat red unless you go over it twice, I'm thinking of just doing a layer of white, then red, then do black checks overtop of that to get it to be a nice solid black/red pattern. Its tedious, but damn it makes it look good!

I'm gonna make my Megaork as checkered as I possibly can, My next update should be with a few more orks being linepainted and mainly him. Dunno when i'll get to that though. Going to be a busy week for me

do you have the red foundation paint. I think its called mechrite red, and it is awesome for painting over black, even if you want a second coat of a different red over top. check it out.

I use a mix of two colors actually :

60/40 of Dark Angels Green and Snot green. Makes a good in between and leaves room for another highlight ontop of that. I have it in a little snaptub in my 'workspace' picture.

npeircemitch, Thanks for the suggestion! I popped a tub of that in my next warhammer order. i'll see how it applies in a few weeks

Alright, like I had promised, I've got an update! Decided to tackle my Megaork and finally got pictures of him up and his buddy today.

I love painting checkers on these damn things!

Yeah, had tons of fun working on this guy. Painting the checks was a bit of a pain in the arse but hey, it turned out great in the end. Some of the checks are uneven... But honestly, I think that adds character, they're orks afterall!

Anyway, My next update should be of my boyz, spent a good portion of this morning priming and basing them all black. Gonna see if I can get a ton done by next week.

thanks for looking! All feedback/critique (Goor or bad) is appreciated!

A good effort to the mass of red checkers, would honestly drive me mad. maybe another highlight for green? you could test it out for one of your boyz and if you don't like it you can tone it down with a thraka green wash, i think the extra highlight would really make your orks more profound.

keep up the good work.

Hey, thanks for the comment.

As for the highlights? They actually do have nice highlights going on, but the pictures were taken under a dim-ish natural light and with a not-so-great camera (Stills function on a video camera) so the highlights don't show as well. But either way. I wanted my Ordzdakka orks to have a darker skin. Being desert based orks. (I'll be posting up the board i'm working on atm in a few weeks upon completion!)

But yeah, In other news, I just got a nice new desktop lamp to paint under. Its much brighter and doesnt create so much heat as my last one had. Hopefully this will improve my painting now that I can see what i'm painting more clearly!

Haha, sorry if that violates fluff! I think orks would look 'awesome' with beards.

In the future i'm hoping to do some scottish highlander style orks with greenstuff. I just need to find what models to use.

Anyway, Big update this time. Decided to put together all of my orks painted so far and photograph them. Then I realized I didn't paint teeth on one... Oh well.

I bring you... TOAST

I'm really happy how its turning out... Exactly how I wanted it. In my orks fluff. The Black and red checkers are used both to intimidate and disorientate their enemy with the wall of green and black and red Checks.

I think they look great All those checkers would make me go insane too, but at least they make your orks stand out!

In some of the pictures some of the orks teeth look a little... white. Maybe bleached bone/white mix or just bleached bone would be better?

Also I agree with thingy about drilling out barrels, or if your lazy like me, just drill out the barrels of the more important orks ^^

Ohh and one more thing, maybe some of the black on the models could use some grey/silver highlighting?

Keep up the good work and I hope my suggestions have been useful =]

@Burntcustard:

I'm already quite insane, so I haven't to worry.

As for the teeth? I think you're right... They are too white. But then again, I haven't a clue on how to make their teeth look good without making it a sloppy mess. Their teeth are designed really strangely on the model so its hard to paint them. I will go over them with a wet application of Kommando khaki later on.

As for the black bits? I'm not sure to be honest. All of their loadbearing and belts stuff are just black leather. I might try and make a greyish highlight or something to go over with, But right now i'm gonna focus on getting the basics of my army put together, then i'll refine in the future.

Thanks for the comment and stuff!

@Vitruvian XVII

Thankyou :9, I'm aiming for pure originality here so far. I don't think i've ever seen black and red checks on another army. Makes them stand out! ... And give you a headache if you look at them long enough.

@Brainscan

Thanks! Honestly, I'm not even sure how long I've put into the things. I never really bothered to keep track. I usually put a few hours into painting once every few nights if I can muster. Maybe when I start another army (Looking at skaven :9 ) I'll start timing myself.

Thanks for the comments!

Now, i'm thinkin' of doing a video of my process for painting soon. So keep an eye on my blog if you're interested. Not sure when i'll get it out though!

Painted model updates soon.

Okay update :

Ordered a bunch of crap for a few freinds and the like. Managed to grab some gretchen, and i might be taking in a bunch more...

Got a question for people that've used grots in their army. I'm looking to have atleast 30 or 40 of them in my army for a genuine wall of short little angry squeaking things. Good idea? I'm playing against 1000+pt armies. and I think a huge distraction would be nice to have my army get in nice and close.

Anyway, I should have a bunch painted later this evening when I return from school.
I've got a superglue casualty that actually ended turning out pretty nice, and well, emphasis on 'Casualty'

But for now. Heres a mass of green, red, black and.. er, grey.

im loving the red checkered theme for some reason, just seems to really catch the eyes to the model. Good job though keep up the good work.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
