Long time gamer but new to 40k and so far it's a blast. I played Necromunda and Mordheim back in the day but it's been awhile.
For 40k I'm building a Chaos Black Legion and plan on making it my main army, 1W-1L so far. Gotten a lot of practice over the past few months with other people's armies but my soul belongs to Chaos undivided.

I really like the fluff of Warhammer and have read a lot of the books, especially stuff by Dan Abnett so if anyone has any suggestions hook it up.

The article is a great discussion completely in favour of regular Chaos marines, whilst the post is a great discussion arguing against it (particularly in favour of Noise Marines).

Personally, I like the regular csms, particularly if you are intending a black legion!

Pick you army for the fluff, no point playing an army you don't like the background to.

As stated I'm playing a CSM army and did choose it partially on fluff but also the aesthetics appealed to me.


Thanks for the articles darkkt, I was already thinking of fielding mostly standard CSM troops and that basically won me over though I do love my Berzerkers.

My army is right now the Chaos Battlebox and I'm receiving a squad of CSM in the mail soon. I plan on getting a chaos lord and Defiler soon and for characters I'll probably pick up Abbadon.

My approach at the moment is a core of specalist Cult Marines, supported by generalist squads of CSMs with IoCG's.

Im still assessing how well this works.

in answering the call of Chaos!

Ok - after the Fem-abbadon pic, I felt my dedication wavering, but thanks to Slannessh & the Daemonettes for bringing me back.

Ok Cult Marines - I love my Tzeentch (hence my efforts on the Tzeentch DP model), and I do like to run (or slowly walk) squads of up to 18 straight towards central objectives.

I also have about 60ish (mostly unpainted) Khorne Zerkers, that always get one or two squads in a game.

So far my plague marines have seen a couple of games, and my E Children havent had a game! Not that I dont like them, I just havent got to them yet.

Played a 2,700 point list on the weekend, 3 objectives vs IG (Conscript and Penal Legion heavy). 18 T Sons, 10 Zerkers (Rhino), and 27 CSM in Rhinos + 10 Daemonettes. Vindicator and Geoff the Defiler, two squads of 3 bikers with plasma guns, and a 5 squad of Raptors. Tzeen DP with wings, wind of chaos and Bolt of change.

Geoff, the raptors and two rhinos didnt survive the first round of IG shooting. everyone else did excellently for the rest of the game, and I won it 2-0 Contested).
