I do it for myself as it just makes it easier to see what I'm doing.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I have been tempted. It does not seem real necessary. I would not mind doing it if I was asked.

It is usually pretty easy to see what it is. "You just know." I mean what is the error? Not much.

I mostly played friendly games and never found it necessary to mark bases. Plus, it makes the models look worse in my eyes.

I'm planning on not marking my bases. I think it could cock up the aesthetics if one isn't careful, which would be a shame.

I definitely mark them. Judging head position vs shoulder position vs weapon position just ends up too confusing, and back vs front arc is too important to the game to not have a clear idea of how each model is facing.

I do play in a lot of tournaments though.

For my marks, I just put a little dash or triangle at the 180° point on either side (3- and 9-o'clock). There's no need to paint the front arc a different color than the back.

I like the thought of painting the entire base black (because the bases look better with a layer of matte paint over it) and then very difinitively going over the back ark with some gloss varnish. Keep it the same color, and when you look closely, there's a very distinct edge to it for measuring the arcs.
